Trinto Duaba and Dice Ibegon are two deep backgrounders, but because they are from the Cantina, it was imperative that Hasbro made them at some point.  They don’t appear together on screen, so at first, it seems like an odd pairing, but it really doesn’t matter, as long as we have them in our collections.  Trinto can be seen seated at a table along with Momaw Nadon just before Luke is confronted by Ponda Baba at the bar.  Trinto is a member of the Stennes species, specifically the “shifter” sub-species.  He has the ability to “disappear” by using a form of telepathy to blend into crowds and remain unnoticed.  He wears electric terminals on his head, and along with his “terminally ill” appearance, earned him the backstage nickname of Terminal Man. Another member of the Stennes species (although not confirmed to be a shifter) is the mustachioed Braconnor Bakiska,  He can be seen in the opening shot sitting with Arleil Schous, Bom Vimdin, and Pons Limbic for a nanosecond before Hem Dazon’s head pops into view and blocks him, never to be seen again.  Trinto Duaba survived the Disney purge, and remains in the canon after his character made an appearance in Maz’s Castle on Takodana in The Force Awakens.

There he is!  Trinto Duaba!  Get ‘im!

As for Dice Ibegon, she was a Force-sensitive (of course) Lamproid, who served as an Alliance recruiter.  While at Chalmun’s, she met and fell in love with Lak Sivrak.  In the original film, you can see Dice speaking with Lak Sivrak (with Labria in the background) while Luke is looking around at the bar before Ponda Baba taps him on the shoulder with his flipper hand.  Later, the Special Edition deleted Sivrak from the film, and he was replaced by Ketwol.  However, it seems that Sivrak survived both his deletion from the film as well as the wider Disney EU purge.  He is currently in canon.  Dice was created as essentially a really fancy sock puppet, so she only existed from the neck up.  Hasbro gave fans the first look at the entire anatomy of the character.

The Trinto Duaba figure is tremendous, and really has only one flaw.  It has swivel elbows, while the rest of the figure is standard super-articulation.  The body sculpt, like Dice Ibegon, is the first time we see the full character, as the onscreen version was seated and partially obscured by a table. The figure’s face is particularly striking with a great resemblance to the character.  Not only is the sculpt outstanding, but so is the paint and wash, which bring out the details of this creepy dude.  He even has the aforementioned electrode terminals on his temples, which I actually never noticed before until I removed the shmata for this review.  Which brings us to the shmata.  That is to say, he has a shmata.  It’s sculpted to fit snugly around his head and drape over his left shoulder, with a gap to accommodate some range of motion of his left arm.  This is important because he comes with a blaster which fits well in the working holster attached to his left hip.  He’s clearly a lefty, as his right hand is sculpted too narrowly to accommodate the blaster.  His left hand is perfectly suited for this, however.  He is able to achieve a decent variety of action poses.  Perhaps most importantly, his swivel hip articulation is such that he is able to hit a 90 degree angle on the thighs, which is perfect for a seated pose necessary to sit at a table in the cantina.  Well done, Hasbro!

Dice Ibegon is another great sculpt.  She’s basically a giant worm-like creature.  Or eel-like, since she’s a member of the lamproid species - get it?  The sculpt has a lot of texture in the skin, and the added paint does a lot to emphasize these details.  The head is sculpted to look just like the character on film, which is a big red mouth with a 4 large teeth.  The neck has a swivel joint.  She has 6 arms which are each on swivel joints.  Between the head and arm articulation points, you can get a little variety out of the figure, but essentially, it’s a glorified statue, and that’s fine by me.

These figures are top notch, and earn a score of 9 bantha skulls.  The fact that it’s a two pack which includes a pair of never before made cantina aliens with excellent articulation and sculpting is enough to overcome the one negative of swivel elbows on Trinto.  Both are nearly perfect for what we need.  Elbows for Trinto would be the only thing I’d hope for, but if such an upgrade were to come at the cost of some other all new figure, then I think we could handle a straight repack.  The secondary market prices are pretty high, and normally I’d recommend that Hasbro re-issue this soon.  However, based on no actual information, I keep thinking/hoping that there will be a “cantina year” coming up soon from Hasbro, and then would be a good time to re-issue many of these awesome aliens.  For now, Hasbro can sit on this, and we’ll see what the future holds.

Trinto Duaba and Dice Ibegon contains body for the astromech R2-L3, who could be seen rolling in the background in Mos Espa when Anakin and Padmé are looking to meet with Watto in an attempt to find Shmi Skywalker.  Source:  Attack of the Clones.
