Electronic Arts just purchased Respawn Entertainment. Respawn was founded in 2010 by the duo of Jason West and Vince Zampella, who were behind Call of Duty franchise at Infinity Ward. In order to found Respawn, the company was largely funded by Electronic Arts through a partnership program. Respawn was responsible for the release of two games: Titanfall, and Titanfall 2.
EA decided to outright purchase the company, after being made aware of a competing bid. With the purchase, EA announced that a Titanfall 3 project was officially underway, which would obviously make fans of that franchise happy.
Back in May, Respawn had announced that they were going to work on a new Star Wars game, although there have been no details since. EA confirmed that the game was still in development, now that the purchase of the studio is complete. This is interesting, as it comes on the heels of EA's recent announcement that they were cancelling development of the game codenamed "ragtag" (we'll call it Something, Something...1313), and closed down Visceral studios. Not much is known about Respawn's game, but at least it seems it's still on the table at this point.
