As mentioned on the front page lead-in, store reports are no longer web site fodder due to the lack of timeliness. They belong to the realm of social media. In fact, if you followed us on X (Twitter), you would have gotten this report yesterday. But I feel like this store report carries a couple of pieces of news that warrant posting it a day late. I found The Acolyte wave at my local southern New Hampshire Walmart yesterday afternoon. Here are the takeaways.

First and foremost, the wave is obviously getting released. After the cancellation of The Acolyte and the subsequent removal of all Acolyte product from Shop Disney, that prospect couldn't be taken for granted. Some feared that the show was headed for "write down" territory similar to Willow and the Galactic Starcruiser hotel. When an IP is written-off for tax purposes, the revenue stream has to cease. That is why the property is removed from the Disney+ streaming platform in the case of Willow. That also means that the stream of licensed income needs to come to a close (hence Acolyte product being removed from Shop Disney). This left open the possibility, remote as it may be, that the figures would likewise be cancelled. This trio of figures was likely far too far along the pipeline for that to be a consideration. They will get their release, but I wouldn't count on a second print. I also feel like the pipelined Yord and Indara may be up in the air. Time will tell as a write-off may still be in the show's future.

The second bit of intel comes from the case assortment itself. Unless this store got two cases that miraculously whittled down to eight figures before I arrived, I came across a complete case which has the following breakdown:

  • 2x Jedi Master Sol
  • 2x Darktrooper
  • 2x HK-87 Assassin Droid (Arcana)
  • 1x Osha Aniseya
  • 1x Mae (Assassin)
This is a far cry from the way the case is listed on Entertainment Earth (sponsored), who rightly notes that it's subject to change:

  • 2x TBD
  • 1x Osha Aniseya
  • 2x Mae (Assassin)
  • 1x Jedi Master Sol
  • 1x HK-87 Assassin Droid (Arcana)
  • 2x Dark Trooper
Unfortunately, the promise of that "TBD" has been delayed (likely indicating it's related to The Skeleton Crew). Sol and the HK-47 have been doubled up, and Mae has been reduced to one per case. The latter is probably a good thing. At 2x case, Mae was likely headed to peg warmer status. As has been noted, that figure was reduced to $15.99 while still in preorder on Hasbro Pulse. It's now sold out, which solidifies the "no second print" speculation.

One more point about how sellable this wave is, I strolled in at 2PM on a fairly busy day. I had to park in the back lot across the road that bisects the parking lot. There were no signs of any stocking activity having taken place recently (i.e. no Walmart personnel in the department nor were there any flattened shipper cases on the floor). I have no idea specifically when this case was stocked, but it surely wasn't fresh on the pegs. Despite it being a high traffic day, not a single figure was purchased prior to my arrival:

And finally, much to my delight, the figures rang up at $14:
