In case you missed it, Galactic Figures reported yesterday that the MSRP for the Vintage Collection will be going to $19.99. You can read the report HERE. Black Series will likewise be getting a three dollar increase to $27.99. We have not received independent confirmation of this, but Galactic Figures is a trusted source. They cite the 2025 Holiday Lookbook as evidence. That asset is typically on Hasbro's Newsroom, but I could not find it. Regardless, while I could see a third party retailer listing an erroneous MSRP, it's hard to image Hasbro themselves getting it wrong especially when Hasbro Pulse was cited. Therefore, barring a news release directly from Hasbro contradicting this, we're going to proceed with this as fact.
So, what does this mean for TVC? Well, there's almost no scenario where prices go up and sales increase. So we have to expect lesser volume as a result, but that might not have an impact on Hasbro's bottom line. We've heard anecdotally that TVC figures do not make any money for anyone. And we've heard this repeatedly from different points along the retail pipeline. You can't sell something for $0 profit and make it up on volume. So even if volume goes down, if this move to a $19.99 price point increases profit, it could incentivize Hasbro to make more, and retailers to stock more. But that's a big if.
What does it mean for us? Well, I don't know what it means for you. I can only tell you what it means for me. I'm not going to quit collecting, but my purchasing habits are definitely going to change. First and foremost, I'm probably done ordering case assortments. It's very rare that I want every figure in a given case assortment at the volume Hasbro decides. I will still probably get one of everything because of this site, but that's just it. One. I don't need two of Jedi Master Indara for example, and she was doubled up in her case. My carded completionism had already come to a halt in 2024 with the questionable repacks Hasbro chose, and this will only further accelerate that. Likewise, if it's a figure that I would typically like to add to my collection, but Hasbro takes an egregious short cut, I will only be getting one for the site. I'm not paying $20 to keep carded samples for things like these:
But therein lies a silver lining. This isn't a nominal increase. Hopefully this is more than just keeping pace with inflation, rising Chinese labor costs, and tariffs. If that's all it is, it could hasten the end of the line. But if this also gives Hasbro room to increase the tooling budget a little bit so that we don't have to suffer wildly inaccurate tooling reuse and also stop the reduced paint applications, I'm personally willing to make that trade off. I'll go further: I welcome this news. I'm tired of paying $17 for figures with obvious corners cut. I'd rather pay $20 if it means all my figure's corners are intact. Yes, the overall number of figures I buy per year will now be going down without a doubt. But I'd rather my annual toy budget go to fewer high quality figures than accumulating masses of lower quality figures. That's just my collecting worldview.
But again, this is a big IF. If $20 is just keeping the status quo, it won't be the status quo for long. That ball is in your court, Hasbro. If the fans step up and continue supporting the line, you need to hold up your end of the bargain if you want the Vintage Collection to continue. TVC figures don't make as much money as TBS figures, but we're not going to buy those $140 ships, $70 beasts, and $500 HasLabs if quality figure support is not there.
