Again, not much in the way of plot spoilers in this article if you haven't watched yet, but a chance to discuss figure candidates from SC: Episode 4. Disqus, on the other hand, might have spoilers, so be careful out there.
And just to pre-empt all the Debbie Downers out there that can't help themselves, I think we all realize that it's unlikely we'd get any figures from this show beyond maybe the same ones already done in TBS. Secondary characters and deep cut backgrounders, no matter how visually interesting, are probably not in the cards unless this show ends up being a surprise runaway success and gets renewed or turned into a movie or some such. That said, we're just having fun here, so let's continue, shall we?
I thought Episode 4 was another interesting step in solving the big mystery. The kids continue to somehow defy the odds and not annoy the crap out of me, SM33 is a fascinating part of the mystery, and Jude Law continues to be a delight. Also, it finally dawned on me that Neel = Eeyore. What a mope!
But that revelation of mine didn't mask the fact that this episode was even less toyetic than the last. The planet they visited was gloomy and lacked any color, and that applied to the inhabitants as well. There were only two new named characters, and only a couple of additional characters had a brief speaking line or two. Hayna and the other helmeted kid that initially confronted the crew while they stared at the statue of King No Head (the kids made me giggle here), would be candidates - assuming we have the main kids first. Thatsalotta kid figures - I can hear the cash registers ringing! The second kid never took his helmet off, and that was that. But you could still make a 2-pack out of Hayna and her weird accent.
As for the antagonist group, I believe their party leader that confronted Jod Na had their only speaking line, aside from someone yelling off-screen. It was a pretty drab group. After Hayna used her selfie stick to get a good look at the war party, we saw a really interesting hover tank, that looked a lot like a variation on the Clone Wars-era Trade Federation ATT. Also: Eopies! Lots of 'em. And they were horny, if you know what I mean. If you don't, I mean that they had horns.
Then we meet Hayna's group, and we are introduced to General Strix. He was also fairly pedestrian in design, but was an important character in the episode. I don't believe any other members of his group spoke, and they were all fairly non-descript. While in the school rooftop camp, we did see an Ithorian, a Rodian, and some other alien I couldn't identify, so they seemed a bit more diverse. They also had that massive cannon, which was kind of fun looking, but unless it gets spectacularly used in a future episode, it didn't get a chance to shine. And a bit later we did get a good look at one guy wearing an old Mudtrooper helmet/goggle combo, using a hand-held megaphone as some kind of radar, which was neat.
The only additional prop/environmental piece that comes to mind were the monuments with the space coordinates on them in the tower. I don't know if the 12 of them in a circle would make much of a diorama statement, but it was somewhat reminiscent of the cliff-top circle of stone pillars that made the starmap thing showing the way to Peridia in Ahsoka. There's probably a bunch of 3D prints of those by now, so maybe these coordinate blocks wouldn't be far behind. Hey Hasbro, there's people out there doing the thing you're supposed to do. You know, like how someone could 3D print a Cantina for free that's way better than the HasLab version. People are nuts.
So that was about it for TVC candidates. We get a couple of mildly interesting figures, a cool tank, a neat cannon, an Eopie, statue of King No Head, and a Space Coordinate monument.
A good episode, with mediocre toy candidates. Looking forward to next week already!
