Much to the chagrin of an energized fan base on Twitter, Solo 2 is unlikely to ever happen. This comes straight from the mouth of Solo's screenwriter, Jon Kasdan, via THIS TWEET in which he writes:
Don't think anyone's pursuing a Solo sequel at the moment @KenobiJj. I think a feature, at this point, would be a tough sell & the D+ Star Wars slate is really...pretty packed, all shows I'm lookin forward to.
This was despite the fact that earlier, Kasdan had outlined the broad strokes of the plot of Solo 2 in a separate Tweet in which he writes:
Beyond grateful & galvanized by the #MakeSolo2Happen energy on Twitter today. Means so much to everyone involved & ur enthusiasm makes it possible for us to keep advocating for it! 'Cause, the Maker knows, there's a WAR story set in a Galaxy Far Far Away that's yet to be told...
Kasdan indicates that it would have been a war story, and included the following image:
From left to right, those are the symbols of the Pyke, Hutt and Crimson Dawn crime syndicates, thus indicating who the warring parties would be. Two of the three are currently represented in the events of The Book of Boba Fett. Boba would be a stand in for the Hutts (in the sense that John Gotti was the boss of the Gambino crime family), and he is about go to war with the Pyke syndicate. That only leaves Crimson Dawn to fulfill Kasdan's vision of Solo 2, and there are swirling rumors of Emilia Clarke reprising her role as Qi'ra. It seems like the stars could be aligning.
I personally had no need for the Solo movie. I didn't need that particular backstory explored in further detail, but the cliff hanger ending did have my eagerly anticipating what would take place with Qi'ra and Maul at the head of Crimson Dawn. At BoBF's point in the timeline, Maul is long since dead having been dispatched by Kenobi in 2 BBY, but if these threads continue to connect, maybe we'll get a glimpse at Qi'ra's reign as the head of Crimson Dawn.
