I know this is a subject that I've beaten to death in the past, but sometimes the best way to make a point is through repetition. Also, sometimes the best way to make a point is through repetition. I mean, this is the outlet that asked about a Vintage Collection Emperor in about fifty consecutive Q&A's. Persistence.
Two little mice fell into a bucket of cream. The first mouse quickly gave up and drowned. The second mouse, wouldn’t quit. He struggled so hard that eventually he churned that cream into butter and crawled out.
I think the community celebrates it when Hasbro comes up with a sculpt that can be tweaked to give us several legitimate releases. The Imperial Officer buck is a great example. From that, we've gotten Admiral Piett, Moff Jerjerrod, the Imperial Officers 4-pack, Grand Admiral Thrawn, Director Krennic, Cal Kestis in Imperial Officer disguise, and hopefully many more. That's good stuff. On Tuesday, John Miko wrote about how Hasbro could get multiple uses out of a new Hammerhead sculpt. Today, I'd like to make my pitch for the Imperial Stormtrooper (Hoth Battle Gear), otherwise known as the Snowtrooper. Let us count the releases.
1. Basic Carded Release
And we start off with the obvious. The first offering should clearly be the main line basic carded release. I will definitely plunk down for a case right off the bat.
2. Deluxe Release with E-Web Heavy Repeating Blaster
The deluxe Imperial Stormtrooper (Nevarro Cantina) came with an E-Web, but let's be honest. The most iconic deployment of the E-Web was in the Echo Base hangar as the Snowtroopers attempted to halt the Millennium Falcon's escape. It's a good thing that baby still has a few surprises left in her, sweetheart.
3. Troop Builder Pack
I bet you didn't see this one coming. I like to keep you on your toes. A Pulse and (phantom) Shop Disney troop builder pack is as obvious as the single carded release. Hasbro could mix up the dirt washes and battle damage to give each Snowtrooper a unique feel.
4. Snowtrooper Commander
This would take a little (stress little) tooling, but Hasbro would get another basic carded release. The commander should NOT be in the troop builder pack. This would require a new head, new upper arms, and a tweaking of the torso.
5. Blue Stars
Yes, this is the release for which I would be most excited. I'm a sick puppy. It would have to be a store or convention exclusive, but it's only a repaint, so that should be manageable. It you don't know what a Blue Stars is because you're under 40, CLICK HERE. Remember, the "Blue Stars" were referenced in the canon novel, Last Shot, so there would be no legal hurdles for Hasbro to jump.
Five, FIVE releases. Ah-Ah-Ah. That's a lot of mileage. Most of the precious new tooling dollars these days seems to go to new media character that are effectively one shots. While keeping up with new media is critical, so is return on investment. From my mile high perch, it seems like a Snowtrooper is good ROI.
