I know you've all been on the edge of your seats (I believe that's the proper plural form, CJ?) wondering how this day was going to go for me. Nevermind what you've had to deal with in your own personal lives; I assume you've set all other worldly concerns aside while you wonder about me. Well, the wait is over (or is it?). Here's how my morning went.
I have been mentally preparing for this morning for weeks, ever since Hasbro revealed their GameStop exclusive 501st Clone Trooper Helmet with FREE! Clone Trooper coin, available in limited quantities only at participating stores - maybe. Add to that the recent TVC reveals, and I've been jumping out of my skin in anticipation of being ready for this, and wrote about my GameStop anxiety HERE.
My plan was for both my wife and I to head out separately to hit up GameStop locations that opened at 10:00am, and if unsuccessful, we'd go the next closest stores that opened at 11:00 (one of which happens to be about 5 minutes from my house). Somewhere in there, I'd pop on HasbroPulse to grab their TVC exclusives - which was almost an afterthought. I wasn't concerned about these so much. I figured, I'd just snag whatever I needed once my GameStop adventure was over - successful or otherwise.
Well, starting Friday afternoon, my life was unexpectedly consumed with some personal event that has dominated my thoughts ever since. No need for alarm, it's all good news. My groin is completely fine, so no cause for concern - I, and my groin, appreciate everyone's thoughts and prayers. But this nevertheless distracted me from my extensive and well-conceived Sunday plans.
I woke up this morning and immediately dove into this particular personal event. At 10:30am (1:30ET) While in the midst of handling business, me ol' pal Chris texts me the following:
I hope you got your orders in. The Pulse sh*t is sold out.
I was like, what's this fool talking about? And then it hit me - I've completely forgotten about May the Fourth. In a panic, I jumped online and saw the wasteland that was Pulse. Now to be fair, Pulse has been a virtual wasteland ever since the "upgrade", which as everyone knows by now, was awarded the prestigious "Worst Ever Website Re-Design In Like EVER" award. But I was still stunned to see everything gone. I managed to get a wave case from EE, and then ordered a bunch of Obi-Wan's from Amazon. But small consolation that I missed out on the three Pulse exclusives. I can't remember the last time that has happened to me. I was extremely disappointed. I tell this to my wife, and she gasps and says "We forgot GameStop!" I was devastated. I knew there was no chance of getting what I needed now. I realized it was about 10:45, so the plan to hit up the 10:00AM openings was down the crapper. My local store was opening in 15 minutes, so I put on some pants, kissed my wife tenderly on the cheek, and set out to be disappointed on my abbreviated trip down the Road to Collecting Hell.
I got to GameStop two minutes before it opened. There was nobody in line outside. The clerk opened the doors at 11:00, and asked me what I needed. I said I was looking for the Clone Trooper helmet, and hopefully she had the coin as well. She went into the backroom, came out with a helmet, and then pulled out a coin from the desk drawer. I had paid, left, and made it back home by 11:15. Super easy; barely an inconvenience. I love GameStop!
So now the wait begins for the Pulse items to come back in stock. Together, we will persevere!
Not sure what all the fuss was about. You guys are ridiculous.
