Scene It
Prisoner Skiff

Description:

[We've updated this "Scene It" to include both upgraded and debut figures. As of October 2023, The scene is complete!]

The prisoner skiff is the primary skiff involved in the "Battle of the Great Pit of Carkoon" during the culmination of act one of Return of the Jedi. This is the skiff from which Luke, Han, and Chewbacca were to be forced to walk the plank into the waiting beak of the almighty Sarlacc.

The plank is extended, as the mighty sarlacc gets ready for dinner.

Not directly from the film, but one of the best and most well known shots of the entire prisoner skiff.

Luke's comedy routine is totally killing it. The audience can't get enough.

Luke about to be pushed onto the plank by Dave Righetti. You get a decent shot of Velken Tezeri, who was the last unmade character from the prisoner skiff before Hasbro finally completed the crew in 2023.

Luke's murder spree begins, and Kithaba is the first victim.

I wonder if Boba feels that it's always a pleasure to meet a Jedi. Lando probably doesn't care at this moment.

Notes:
1.  Leia watches from inside. She loves Han. He knows.
2.  Skiffing across the dunes.
3.  Han tells Luke he's an idiot.
4.  The mighty Sarlacc waits for his next meal, even though it's going to sit in its stomach like canned salisbury steak from Fallout.
5.  Long shot showing the entire skiff.
6.  Luke lays down the gauntlet. This is hilarious, apparently.
7.  Close up shot where Kithaba is prominently shown. He's going to die very soon.
8.  Luke walks the plank, while everyone laughs at him.
9.  Velken Tezeri is getting ready to meet his fate like a boss.
10.  The Sixers got a sliced blaster as an accessory with Boba Fett. It's something that should have been included with VC186 Boba Fett, but sadly was not.
11.  The new skiff features a swappable damaged railing, so Lando can hang on for dear life. Neat!
12.  Here's where the sandstorm Chewbacca becomes fully accurate to this scene. It was only recently that I realized Han administered first aid during the moment Luke and Leia swing off the Khetanna.

Action Figures/Items Used:
The following figures were used in the above photos. These figures represent what the Bantha Skull staff considers as the best version of the respective characters. Click through on the following entries to go to that figure's full gallery. If that figure was part of a multi-pack, you will be brought to the gallery for just that figure. From there you can click through to the parent set.

Notes:
[Editor's note: This Scene It entry was updated most recently on 10/13/23, reflecting the most recent figures and vehicles released since the initial publication on 3/25/2019.

  • Han Solo was a tough one, and this choice may be controversial. The best "carbonite outfit" Han Solo, by a mile, is the TBS #19 Han Solo. But as you know, we are sticklers for screen accuracy. #19 is sourced from ESB, since Han's shirt is untucked, obscuring his belt, as he descends into the carbon chamber on Bespin. In ROTJ, Han's shirt is magically tucked into his belt. This is more accurately depicted in figures based on the TSC #002 Han Solo (in Carbonite). For further sticklerization, Han has a clean shirt upon release from the block, gets it dirty when he falls to the ground, and then seemingly is cleaned up again by the time he's on the skiff. So, we believe the clean/tucked version from the "Battle at the Sarlaac" pack is technically the most accurate to the scene. Even though it is very much inferior to the TBS figure in just about every way (except, perhaps, likeness), that figure manages to maintain a small amount of value for display. We'll allow you to display either one, though, without giving you too much grief.

  • VC144 Lando has supplanted VC89 Lando as the best figure for this setup. The only real issue with the figure is the missing blaster, although he can tussle for Vedain's now. VC144 addresses the issues inherent with VC89, which include short legs, poor skin tone, and inaccurate outfit coloring. It also adds PhotoReal tech to the face. VC89 is still a very good figure, and can be a viable substitute.

  • We chose to use the Sandstorm Chewbacca due to the windswept hair looking best for the scene. The bandage? We're not really that interested in screen accuracy, so who cares about th....oh, we are? We do care about screen accuracy? Ok, sorry. Well, the windy hair beats the bandage, which is well hidden when the figures are standing around. Also, as Chris recently discovered after closely analyzing the scene, you can see Han giving Chewbacca some medical attention prior to the skiff evacuating from the area. So if you do a "Luke/Leia swing to freedom" display, this Chewbacca is the correct one.

  • The Vintage Collection Tatooine Skiff is an incredible improvement over the previous 1984-era sculpt. It is a must-have for this scene if you are going to fit all the necessary figures on board.

  • The Sarlacc is undersized and the "pit" is more like a hill, but it's all we have.

  • Luke Skywalker from the SDCC 3-pack is a big improvement over the previous release. The new headscupt, PhotoReal tech, improved wrist articulation, and outstanding hooded cape make this figure a winner, although the cape is obviously specific to the earlier scene in Jabba's palace.

  • Weequay, Kithaba, and Skiffmaster are all outstanding figures from the TVC 1.0 era, perfectly suited for this scene.

  • Vedain and Velken Tezeri are exciting additions to the line from TVC 2.0, and have completed the crew!

  • The Missing:
These are characters that belong in this scene for which Hasbro has never made a figure. These characters are all featured in our Unproduced Character Guide which we have affectionately nicknamed Missing In Action Figure or M.I.A.F. for short. Clicking through on the following entries will bring you to the M.I.A.F. entry for that character.

    Scene Complete
To the best of the knowledge of the staff at Bantha Skull, all of the characters from this scene have been made as action figures! There are no missing characters.
