Whether or not you like this set all depends on your point of view. Personally, I really like it.
The idea here is that we get two “legendary” characters that were friends with a young Luke on Tatooine, but whose scenes were left on the cutting room floor. Once Hasbro decided to go ahead and produce a figure of Biggs Darklighter wearing his academy duds, it seemed that fans started clamoring extra loudly for these guys in order to “complete the scene.” Well, about 3 years after Biggs hit the shelves, and after several false starts and rumors of cancellation, Camie and Fixer are finally here, immortalized in plastic.
The figures themselves aren’t particularly exciting, but they’re pretty much as good as they can be for what they represent. They have decent articulation, but lack ankle joints. Normally, this is a killer for me, but in this set, I’m fine with it. They are dressed just as they are in the cutscene, except Fixer comes with a weapon instead of binoculars, because, well every action figure needs a weapon. Following that logic, Camie has a dog-fox-rabbit-weasel animal as a weapon. It’s cute. I have no idea what it’s supposed to be, but I’m sure somewhere in the EU, the animal has a species identified along with a home planet and a name. (I’ll have to check Banthapedia later to see if this is the case.) Actually, I should probably read the included comic. I’ll get back to you on this. (Hey look, there it is!) Anyway, the paint is simple but effective. The face sculpts are pretty good. Camie is not nearly as pretty as the actress, but Fixer looks somewhat like the actor, as far as I can tell. One other thing is that the set says “Camie Marstrap” I can’t find any reference to “Marstrap” on Banthapedia, so it’s probably a crazy mistake by Hasbro. At some point after their deleted scene, Camie and Laze “Fixer” Loneozner got married, and that’s all anyone remembers when it comes to her last name.
I really like this set because it’s two brand new characters that are seeing their action figure debut, and include some new animal as a bonus. They fill out a deleted scene from a New Hope, and this is cool to me. I guess next up would be for Hasbro to finish the ROTJ sandstorm scene with a Leia and Lando. If you’re a completist, you obviously need this. If you’re a big fan of the OT, then you need this. If you just can’t get enough “just offscreen” or “deleted scene” characters, then you need this. If you like to have simple non-Jedi/Sith/Bounty Hunter/Warrior/Clone/ humans that are just trying to make their way in the galaxy, then you need this.
Thank you to Hunter PR for providing this set for us to review!
