That’s what I’m talking about!  Due to ignorance, I’m not much of a fan of the character, but man I love this figure.  I wish they could all be like this.  The figures is super articulated including ball jointed hips.  With the exception of the neck, all of the joints have good range of motion and can easily be positioned.  The upper tunic sculpt does prevent the arms from fully rotating above the head though. The sculpt is loaded with tiny details and paint apps that add an almost elegance to the figure.  The only thing keeping this figure from a full 10 out of 10 is the face sculpt.  It’s stuck in permanent scowl.  I would have a appreciated a more neutral face sculpt in this instance. 9 out of 10.

Once, twice, three times a peg warmer.  Quinlan Vos figures have never fared well.  Quilan Vos was actually the Fans’ Choice winner for the Thirtieth Anniversary Collection, but since he was already scheduled to be released in a Comic Pack, that title went to the runner up.  Some guy named Darth Revan.  Ever heard of him?  Darth Revan went on to be a wildly popular figure.  The Quinlan Vos Comic Pack ended up being a substantial peg warmer.  Fans complained that Hasbro chose the wrong costume for that release.  So Hasbro released Quinlan Vos in a second Comic Pack.  It ended up being a substantial peg warmer.  For some reason that now escapes me, Hasbro was also to blame for this second round of poor sales.  Clearly it’s no indication of market appeal.  So the fan favorite was retconned into a scene on Mos Espa in The Phantom Menace.  This was the perfect opportunity for Hasbro to finally deliver a worthy Quinlan Vos figure.  It ended up being a substantial peg warmer.  The Fans’ Choice polling is broken.

Why this figure peg warmed is beyond me.  Even if you have no interest in the specific source, it seems a super articulated Jedi would be welcome in your collection.  With the exception of ball jointed wrists, the figure has all the modern points of articulation despite being six years old.  The figure can achieve many dynamic dueling poses aided by the ball jointed hips.  It also seems this figure should have been a hit with kids seeing as it includes a blaster and working holster plus an unlit saber hilt that attaches to the belt.  I know the eight year old me would have done back flips for this figure.  Perhaps if Hasbro’s advertising budget fo TVC wasn’t on par with the purveyors of x-ray specs and sea monkeys, some kid interest could have been generated.  I know I overly romanticize the vintage Kenner commercials, but a “and now introducing Quinlan Vos” voice over would have gotten any kids’ juices pumping.

I was considering upping the score to a 10, but that’s not appropriate.  The permanent scowl mentioned above, the lack of range of motion of the head, and the lack of an enclosed trigger guard on the blaster all combine to warrant that point deduction.  The figure stands at 9 out of 10.

Verdict:  No Action

This is good enough to be the definitive Episode I Quinlan Vos figure.  Because “collectors”, the secondary market interest in this figure is greater than when it was released and it actually warrants a mild premium on Ebay, but that doesn’t mean Hasbro should ever revisit this source.

Verdict Guide:
Re-sculpt = The figure is not definitive, and a new version should be developed.
Re-issue = This version is definitive (or close enough), and shows sufficient secondary market demand to warrant a straight repack.
No Action = This release does not require new attention.
