Quite simply if you don’t own this figure at the time you are reading this, you’re a loser.  10/10

HAHA!  Sick burn, Chris!  For those of you that were declared to be losers back in February of 2011, you’re officially “off the project” if you still don’t have at least one of these by today.  You’re not only a loser, you’re not even the lovable kind.  This figure is awesome.  It’s a great sculpt underneath the double robes, which themselves are pretty amazing.  The sculpt is SA (lacking only ball jointed hips, but it’s forgivable.  It’s surprisingly detailed, and if you had spares of these figures, you could display them in several off-screen configurations, like that deleted scene where the guards take their robes off and wrestle in the locker room to earn the right to be first in line at the commissary.

The helmet is interesting, in that there is a separately sculpted head inside, but it appears to be permanently affixed to the helmet.  It looks great, and pretty much solves the problem of collectors having an aversion to removable helmets on figures.  The outer robe is made from a surprisingly suede-y fabric.  It falls nicely over the figure.  The only complaint here is that this piece is a little too long, and causes the outer robe to billow outward when they hit the “ground.”  The inner robe is made of a much thinner material that also fits extraordinarily well.

There is a holster molded perfectly on the right hip, which contains a blaster pistol.  The pistol isn’t as snug as it should be, but it works well enough.  The hands grip the pistol tightly.  There’s a rifle with a sling, which can be wielded with a a THWG, or carried over the shoulder.  Finally, the figure includes a staff, which can also be displayed in a variety of poses.  If you experiment with the arm joints, you can position the arm and hand so the figure can approximate the “guard position” by holding the staff upright with the arm at the figure’s side.  It all works very well.

So with 3 different weapons, all of which interact well with the figure, an outstanding sculpt, two incredibly well-executed robes, and a variety of display options, this figure is top notch.  Hasbro really shouldn’t bother to make any improvements.  We’ll call it, with no hesitation definitive.  As the definitive Senate Guard sculpt, you need a couple of these figures.  Amazingly, these are relatively cheap on ebay, even carded.  Not sure how that is possible, especially given that there are two carded variants, both currently readily available on Ebay.  There is simply no need for any action on Hasbro’s part.  As for you, if you are a loser, click the sponsored Ebay below and begin the process of becoming a winner!  In the meantime, we’ll give a score that is perhaps more appropriate for modern times, and drop it from a 10 to a 9.
