Real Quick. Decent likeness as near as I can tell. The helmet looks spot on, but I’m never very good at spotting minor inaccuracies. Having the saber hilt hole reminds us that this is essentially a head swap. Having said that, the VTSC X-Wing Luke which is the basis is strong figure for which I have no real complaints. One point deduction for the saber hilt hole. 9 out of 10.

Wedge Antilles had a whole bunch of drama surrounding his release in TVC. After some fits, starts, fakery, and shenanigans, VC28 was finally released in much later waves than originally intended. What collectors got for their patience (just kidding, collectors have no patience) was a retooled X-Wing pilot body, including the lightsaber peg hole in the belt. Oh well. It’s not perfect, but it’s still a great figure. If you take away all the drama surrounding the delayed release and subsequent acquisition difficulties, what you have is a solid, super-articulated, well painted pilot figure, with a face that has a very good likeness to Denis Lawson and a helmet that is extremely well decorated. The blaster (which lacks a holster of any kind, as is typical of Rebel pilots) fits very snugly in Wedge’s hand, which includes a floating index finger for the trigger. Wedge can even perform the vaunted THWG. Neat-o!
What? You want some more information on Wedge Antilles? Well, you’ll be interested to know that Fake Wedge was officially retconned into the new canon timeline in “Duty Roster”, one of the short stories in From a Certain Point of View. (You can read our synopsis HERE.). In that story, Col Takbright was the angry pilot that got ticked off at the new farm boy talking about womprat nonsense during the briefing at Yavin. Because he looked and sounded a lot like Wedge Antilles, his fellow pilots teased him by calling him “Fake Wedge.” So it’s no longer just a name given by fans to the Actor-Who-Played-Wedge-in-ANH-But-Was-Not-Denis-Lawson, it’s actually a real canon nickname for a Rebel pilot. There’s your Star Wars nugget for the day.
You’ll want this figure, if you don’t have it already. He’s Wedge, and you’re a terrible human being if you don’t want the best Wedge figure available to date.
Verdict: No Action
For whatever reason, despite the initial panic of this figure’s release, enough made it to market, including with carry forwards, that there just isn’t much demand for ol’ Wedge. As stated, he’s an excellent figure, so pick one up for your collection. In fact, get a couple if you can. He’s good enough for ANH and ROTJ. Despite the fairly non-offensive lightsaber peg hole in the belt, this is about as good as it gets for Wedge, so we’re calling it the definitive version, with no further action needed by Hasbro. Go to eBay if you missed it the first time!
Verdict Guide:
Re-sculpt = The figure is not definitive, and a new version should be developed.
Re-issue = This version is definitive (or close enough), and shows sufficient secondary market demand to warrant a straight repack.
No Action = This release does not require new attention.
