Lumat is based on the Logray body with a new head.  I gave Logray a 10 out of 10, so I guess I’m forced to do the same for Lumat. But I’m not going to. This figure makes us happy because it crosses off a vintage analogue more so than the character’s prominence in Return of the Jedi.  It also and at long last introduces the hot pink background color to the modern Vintage Collection.  A background color from the Kenner vintage line that was used for Lumat and the grand daddy of the all with respect to Kenner figures.

The figure itself crams as much articulation that the tiny Ewok form factor can muster.  The reason I’m not going to give Lumat the same lofty score as Logray is that the figure cannot interact with the bow accessory properly.  No realistic shooting pose can be achieved.  For that reason I have to lower the score to 9 out of 10.

Lots of nonsense surrounding the identity of this character.  It was Lumat, then it was Graak, and now it’s Lumat again.  Or something kind of like that.  Or not at all.  It doesn’t matter.  The important thing, as Chris mentioned, is that Hasbro gave us a modern version of a Kenner figure for TVC, and that means something to some people sometimes.  I couldn’t tell you where Lumat appears in ROTJ, although according to Wookieepedia, “Lumat can be seen in the Special Edition DVD of Return of the Jedi at frame 1:12:32.”  That seems like a lot of work for a screen grab, so we’ll have to take this as the truth.  One other thing in Lumat’s bio - he’s apparently the dad of 3 woklings, one of which, Nippet, was made by Hasbro once upon a time as BD4 in the blue Legacy Collection, packed randomly with Neektar, who apparently had no relation to the wokling.  Well, Nippet is no longer a Hasbro orphan, as here is her dad, Lumat.

The figure is outstanding, with a lot of articulation and accessories packed into a little figure.  The sculpt is outstanding, using Logray’s body along with a new head and paint job.  It’s an outstanding effort by Hasbro, as the fur, with the highlights, the details on the face sculpt, and especially the eyes, all work together to bring this figure to life.  It really has a lot of personality.  Many of the modern ewoks are a wonder, and are basically home runs every time Hasbro churns one out.

Lumat comes with removable hood/sling, which is attached to a pouch to hold 3 tiny arrows.  They fit nicely into the pouch, but you should be careful with these so you don’t misplace any them, which would probably cause even a normally level-headed person to put their fist through a wall.  The bow is nicely sculpted, with painted wrappings.  The string is thin and flexible, and I don’t get the impression it will break under normal curcumstances.  There’s a little notch in the front of the bow so that one of the arrows can clip into it, giving it a more realistic, ready-to-fire appearance.  This is pretty awesome.  Lumat, stubby arms and all, can actually perform a THWG with the bow.  Chris stated that he couldn’t get Lumat into a meaningful shooting pose.  I was able to get something close enough to it for the over-the-shoulder shot (with the stormtrooper) in the gallery above, but it’s not perfect.  I think the short arms would make a perfect aiming pose very difficult, and I’m satisfied with how it came out.  Lumat also comes with a spear, which he can wield with one or two hands, in a variety of casual or aggressive positions.  The whole thing is done very well.

Lumat is delight of an action figure.  Around 2012-2013, Hasbro produced an absurd (but very welcome) amount of Ewok and Endor-related figures and toys.  Lumat is a standout in this group.  This figure is the definitive version of this character.  You should own one.  If you don’t, you should know that you are just a soulless husk, wandering the Earth aimlessly.

Lumat is outstanding, is definitive, and goes for a moderately high premium on eBay.  Hasbro should consider a way to re-release this figure in a way other than re-issuing the single-carded figure.  A multi-pack might be nice down the road, although we may have gotten our fill of Ewoks for a little while after the Blitz of 2012.
