Prior to doing this write up, I submitted this entry with a grade of 8/10.  The oppressive humidity of the day must have clouded my judgment, and I have upgraded my score to 9/10.  The one deduction being the helmet appears a little too large for the head.  I originally had a second deduction for the limited range of motion caused by the tunic, but I really can’t fault Hasbro or the figure for this as it’s an acceptable concession in order to represent the uniform accurately.  There is no on screen reference to compare the face sculpt to.  As far as the figure, the pictures speak for themselves.  Hasbro delivers a super articulated figure with decent accessories and crisp detailed paint apps.  What’s not to like?  If Hasbro saw fit to release this one again with the Veers head in a battle pack (hint hint), I’ll buy that one too.

This is a very good figure.  It’s trying to do a lot of things, and succeeds overall, but I do have some complaints.  First and foremost, we probably should have gotten an updated General Veers, rather than a generic AT-AT Commander.  The good news here is that it qualifies as a modern upgrade to the Kenner AT-AT Commander, so it satisfies that narrow requirement.  This figure resolves some issues with the General Veers figure, while other aspects are actually worse off.  The head sculpt is what it is.  It’s fine for a regular guy.  My biggest complaint is with the helmet, which is VERY loose.  The goggles are a separate piece, but can’t be worn any way other than over the top of the helmet, so they might as well be sculpted or glued on.  I guess he can hold them casually in his hand like in one of the pictures above, but it’s not an impressive capability.  Veers had an officer’s cap underneath the helmet, which is cool.  This figure does not have a hat.  A better option would be a removable hat that can be switched out with a better fitting helmet.

The body sculpt is excellent, with articulation that far exceeds that of Veers.  The removable body armor is nice.  It is front and back, which is better than Veers, however, this guy’s giant “belt buckle” is not removable.  When he’s in standard officer mode, the belt and buckle stand out in a silly way, so this should be removable.

The paint applications are pretty good.  There is some random bits of stray paint on the face, which I attribute to being specific to my sample.  The armor has 3 red/blue pips, indicating an officer with a rank below that of General Veers’ 4 red/blue pips.  He’s probably a colonel, although Wookieepedia’s (Legends) article isn’t that clear on this.  The tunic under the armor has a silver insignia (not red/blue), so Hasbro missed this.  On the subject of paint, the ankle joints are gray, and therefore show through the black boots, which is annoying.  The figure also has black gloves, so in order to complete the standard officer look, there would need to be switch out bare hands.

I’m not sure if I’m being hard on this figure now, versus Chris’s 9/10 eight years ago, but I think there is a lot of room for improvement.  It’s still a quality figure, but probably suffered under Hasbro’s attempt to accomplish too much here.

Verdict:  Re-sculpt (Low Priority) [with caveat]

The rank on the armor and the tunic should match.  There should be a removable cap.  The helmet should fit much tighter.  The belt buckle should be removable.  There should be switch out bare hands.  The ankle joints should be black.  That would make this a perfect AT-AT Commander.  The caveat?  I think we should be happy with this generic version, and not waste a slot on an upgrade.  But if Hasbro did their magic and gave us an awesome Julian Glover head sculpt, along with properly matched General’s rank insignia, I’d be up for a resculpt/update as the ultimate General Veers.  So technically, the verdict should be “No Action”, but a Veers version based on this figure would warrant a resculpt.

It’s General Veers!

Verdict Guide:
Re-sculpt = The figure is not definitive, and a new version should be developed.
Re-issue = This version is definitive (or close enough), and shows sufficient secondary market demand to warrant a straight repack.
No Action = This release does not require new attention.
