General Hux is the last basic 5POA figure in the launch wave for The Last Jedi that we’re adding to the Bantha Skull galleries. There will be no fanfare to commemorate this event. You just get another gallery and review to peruse.
The most interesting thing about this figure is that this is his second 5POA release (one for each movie), but he has yet to see a super-articulated version. I believe he may be the most important sequel trilogy character to still be absent from the collector line. With the long overdue additions of Luke and Snoke, the next most important character missing would probably be BB-8.
Here, again, the figure does what it needs to. Hux stands with authority. He holds his pistol securely. He is sculpted and painted well. The facial likeness to Domhnall Gleeson is passable. He comes with a MSE droid that has moving wheels (same sculpt has been release in the past). All of this is good.
It appears that Hux’s uniform is the same, or very similar, in both TFA and TLJ. Hasbro decided to go a different route with the sculpt rather than rehash the TFA version.* I believe this resulted in a better figure. The most obvious difference from the earlier iteration is that he is not wearing his cover (or “hat”, for our civilian readers) this time around. It remains to be seen if Hux goes hatless for the entire film. If not, then it’s a shame Hasbro couldn’t include a removeable cap. If they could sculpt the masterpiece that is Paige’s removable flight helmet and detachable oxygen mask at this price point, then it is an unfortunate omission not to include a hat for Hux. But at least you can get him with both profiles, if you own the two figures.
It’s not a bad figure, but the hat would have elevated it a point - unless he has no hat in TLJ, rendering the point moot. Also, Hux needs an SA version. Broken record alert: 5 it is!
*Editor’s Note: The long overcoat is removeable. Proper image will be added to the gallery shortly.
*Updated with images of removeable overcoat.
*Updated with CJ’s request to show MSE droid as a hat.
*Editor’s Note: After some reflection, will reluctantly add a point to the grade due to the removable coat, which allows the figure to make a wardrobe change. Unknown if this is screen accurate, but will give the figure a 6, nonetheless. It’s slightly better than most of the other 5POA’s in the TLJ line so far.
