Finally, a super-articulated Sergeant Jyn Erso.  After reviewing three 5POA iterations of the same figure, it’s nice to finally be able to take a look at the real version.  Along with Cassian Andor, this is one of only two characters produced by Hasbro in super-articulated form from the Rogue One strike team. It had better be good!

Jyn has 14 points of articulation, just like Cassian.  However, there is a slight drop in posability because the wrists are swivel only, and do not have the two-way articulation as does Cassian.  It suffers from “diaper crotch”, which is unfortunate.  While the belt and holster do mask this a bit so it’s less offensive than on, say, Resistance Tech Rose, it still stands out too much and definitely impacts the aesthetics of the figure.

That said, the sculpt is very good, with the appropriate amount of folds, creases, and textures throughout the uniform.  The face sculpt may be decent, but the paint application is just average, at best.  While it lacks much of a resemblance to Felicity Jones, I’d probably think more highly of it had I not been able to compare it to the surprisingly excellent face that is part of the 5POA figure included with the AT-ACT.  The comparison pic above shows the difference.  While this figure’s facial sculpt and paint aren’t bad, it is embarrassingly outdone by the AT-ACT figure.  That’s a terrible miss here.  Overall, the paint applications are a bit sloppy, with some overspray and edge-bleed.

The vest is removable, and it is practical to do so if you wanted an alternate display option, because the shirt underneath is a single color and does not suffer from baseballshirt-itis. (That’s a thing.  Check WebMD.)  Jyn’s pistol can fit nicely in her hand, although she lacks a real trigger finger.  Her index finger is sculpted separately, but is too stubby to actually fit inside the trigger guard.  Othewise, Jyn is able to grip it well.  It also fits snugly in her holster.  Like Cassian, the belt/holster is sculpted as a separate piece but the holster is glued to the right hip.  This has a slight impact on the versatility of the hip joint movement range, but not enough to be a significant negative.  The pistol is also one of three parts of a larger rifle assembly.  It’s a neat feature, and works very well.  However, it might be preferable to have included a full rifle as a separate accessory.  It’s unfortunate that the basic swivel wrist articulation cannot accommodate the range of rifle aiming poses that can be achieved by the Cassian figure.  But, importantly, Jyn is able to achieve the THWG.**

This figure could have been a 9, but sloppy paint applications and reduced wrist articulation put it at an 8.  A face that is inferior to a 5POA offering angers me enough to knock this figure down further to 7.  It’s still a good figure though, so get it if you can find one.
