Forces of Destiny, the series of cartoon shorts, has inspired a line of large action figures which probably outnumber the combined total of 3.75” SA figures from all four Disney Star Wars films. Amazing, right? Read it, and weep. Here’s a quick and dirty look at this SDCC 2018 set.
Chewbacca, styled after his look in the series, is nicely articulated. He can achieve a variety of poses, although his ankles don’t flex in enough directions to support too many action poses. Chewy comes with his bowcaster, which actually comes in 3 pieces, almost identical to the design of the 3.75” version. Chewy can grip the bowcaster in one or both hands. I don’t know much about the line, but Chewbacca is about the same height as a 1:6 Sideshow figure, so my guess is he’s probably meant to be in scale with a 10” figure, but who knows? Not me.
Chewbacca’s fur is soft and can probably be teased in different directions, would one be inclined to do so, as the target audience might be. The face is comical, but I guess it passes for a 3D version of the cartoon styling. The bandolier and murse are well sculpted, but easily slip off Chewy’s shoulder, so it’s a little annoying. There’s a button on Chewbacca’s chest that activates sound. A variety and roars and snarls result, I believe 5 in all, if I counted properly.
Finally, there are two adult porgs, and two chicks. The adults are colored differently from each other, for a little variety. The wings are articulated with ball joints, so each adult can achieve a bunch of different looks. They are flocked, so they have a velvety texture. The chicks are actually part of the nest, in one single accessory. The chicks have a soft, furry covering. Adorable.
Set retails for $49.99 at SDCC, and includes special packaging meant to recreate the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon, and has a “try me” button so you can check out Chewbacca’s roars without opening the package. It’s a cute set, if you know someone in the target demographic that would enjoy it.
