This Taun We figure isn’t a bad figure. It’s action figure fraud. The community has consistently considered the Saga Throne Room Luke Skywalker or the Saga Geonois Rescue Mace Windu as the worst figure in the modern line. It’s clear that the character of Tuan We is so minor that it doesn’t stir collector passion or the bulk of the community has never opened this figure, as was the case with me, because it is truly wretched. The Luke and Windu figures mentioned earlier are so bad that they’re funny, which allows for ironic appreciation of those figures. This figure is bad in a way that results in utter indifference.
First and foremost, this figure is impossible to stand. At least this is the case for my sample. This is the first time in my four year photo review career that I have had to resort to using a figure stand to pose the figure. The stand in the pictures is not included with the figure. I tried for fifteen minutes to stand the figure, and had to conceded that it would not happen. The plastic dress extends beyond the feet, but the dress is not sculpted straight along the bottom. It’s curved and slopes upward from front to back. This forces the figure to topple over forward. Even if the legs extended beyond the bottom of the dress, they would have been of little assistance in posing the figure. The spindly rubbery legs terminate in tiny fawn-like feet that would offer no stability. This figure is even difficult to pose standing with the assistance of the figure stand! The peg holes in the feet are very shallow so the figure does attach securely to the stand.
The standing issue aside, the figure sports a whopping three points of articulation. The shoulders have swivel rotation so the arms can move up and down. The arms terminate in the character’s three fingered hands which are sculpted open, so there is no way the figure could interact with an accessory. The waist also swivels, but that’s it. The neck is too thin for Hasbro to attempt any sort of head articulation. The lower body is one solid piece of useless flimsy plastic. If Hasbro had included swivel hips, there may have been a chance for posing the figure. One of the saving graces of the Saga line is the accessories. Even when the figures are terrible, they sometimes come with environmental accessories that make the figure worthy of purchase even if the figure itself is valueless. That is not the case here. This Taun We figure comes with what is essentially a large empty Tupperware container. 1 out of 10.
