Now that we’ve caught up with the most recent wave of TLJ figures with our Jyn Erso review, we’ll transition smoothly back into the Rogue One line to catch up on a few items we had missed.  First up is the Shoretrooper.

Thanks to Hasbro, this character has an identity problem.  This figure is the regular infantry, or “grunt”, version of the trooper.  Hasbro calls this “Shoretrooper.”  The same grunt version was produced in the super-articulated Walmart Black Series line, but that one was called “Scarif Stormtrooper Squad Leader.”  There was an actual Squad Leader in the 5POA line, in a 2-pack with Moroff, which Hasbro also called “Scarif Stormtrooper Squad Leader.”  Then there was the “Shoretrooper Captain”, in a 2-pack with Bistan.  So Hasbro got some of the ranks wrong, and couldn’t decide whether soldiers in this unit should be called “Shoretroopers” or “Scarif Stormtroopers.”  And allegedly, there was more of the same in that 6” line, but them Sixers can deal with their own nonsense.

This figure was a bit tricky to find, as seems to be the case with most of these troopers.  This one was in a wave that in many regions of the country only briefly hit stores.  The Walmart figure was notoriously hard to find, while the Bistan 2-pack became an online exclusive after nearly disappearing into the labyrinth of figure hell.  That left the Moroff 2-pack as your best chance to get a figure of this trooper, and it was the skirted version.

This figure has a nice looking sculpt.  It is painted fairly sharply, although it does have some bleeding edges here and there.  The uniform and armor details are well done, as are the colored unit markings on the arms.  It stands sturdily, and holds the blaster tightly.  It also comes with a silly spring-loaded claw cannon.

It would be a decent 5POA figure, except I had a strange issue with my sample.  The left hip joint is stuck, so the leg won’t move.  I tried to force it, but was nervous that I would break it off, so I left it.  I won’t completely kill the review score due to this, as I can only assume the problem is isolated to my sample, but it’s definitely annoying.  Frankly, it shouldn’t make a difference because you can’t use the legs to pose the figure in any kind of action pose anyway, but the one thing the should do is be able to sit properly, and he can’t.

I’ll give it a 4.  It should be a 5, but screw this guy and his bum left leg on a figure that screams out for super-articulation.  I have the SA version anyway.  Go get that one instead.
