Here we do our first review of a figure drawn from Rebels that is not original to the show. Appearing in Season 2, a young Princess Leia Organa’s cartoony likeness from the episode titled, “A Princess on Lothal” was added to the Rogue One line from Hasbro.
In the show, Leia is introduced as leading an Alderaanian delegation with the intent of providing aid to the citizens of Lothal. At this point in the timeline, Leia, of course, is officially serving the Empire, and her plan to support Rebel insurgents on Lothal must be secret so as not to jeopardize Alderaan’s membership in the Imperial Senate. She brings 3 “relief” hammerhead corvettes to Lothal, and after crossing paths with Kanan and Ezra, devises a plan to allow the Rebels to steal the ships.
Leia’s outfit, at first, reminded me of Taun We from AOTC, but it’s actually inspired directly from a Ralph McQuarrie concept drawing, which is pretty cool. The episode also gives a bit of context behind Vader’s ANH accusation about her penchant for mercy missions. Some may see it as gratuitous, but I thought Leia’s appearance in Rebels was a nice homage to the OT. Also, we know that she is a little past 15 years old in the episode. Ezra was born on Empire Day, officially two days before Luke and Leia are born. Rebels showcases the 15th annual Empire Day at one point midway through Season one.
The figure itself is true to the show. Leia’s cartoony and petite styling are translated directly to this 5POA figure. I had a bit of trouble getting her to stand, and samples may vary depending on how straight and symmetrical the feet are. It’s a simply painted two-tone outfit, with a few silver details here and there. The face sculpt is nice, and the paint application is fairly sharp and gives Leia a pretty visage. The head has a decent range of motion, something strangely lacking in many other 5POA figures, even with ball jointed necks. Leia comes with a Stormtrooper blaster, which she acquires during the Lothal mission. She is otherwise weaponless, as befits her representation of the peaceful planet of Alderaan. Additionally, we get Bantha Skull’s favorite accessory, another zip line for the Rogue One line look.
It’s not a particularly exciting figure, but it does all the necessary things to achieve the baseline score for 5POA animated figures: 3.
