Yet another Jyn! So much for #wheresjyn. As we’ve said elsewhere, there were 16 figures in the Rogue One line that were actually from the Rogue One movie, and 3 of them are Jyn. This particular figure is repacked in the Jedha Revolt 4-pack (identical), as well as the AT-ACT vehicle (slight repaint). How does this one fare against them?
As a 5POA, this figure does its job. The sculpt is decent. The uniform has sufficient fabric and texture details, as well as various pockets, buckles, and other whatnots. My sample had her right shin warped slightly out of the package. Not sure if that is specific to my sample, but it was not the case for the other 2 repacked versions.
The paint applications are decent around the body of the figure, but definitely leave something to be desired around the face. While the sculpt may not be remarkable, you’d never know by the crappy paint job. The hairline, in particular, is not good, and her long hair that extends below her jaw is not painted on the inside. It really just detracts from what might be a decent sculpt. Check out the comparison shot of the same figures that come with the Jedha Revolt 4-pack and the AT-ACT. The one with the AT-ACT is practically a Rembrandt compared to either of the other two. Surprising, since most pack-in figures get the short end of the stick when it comes to detailing, even if the sculpt is a straight repack.
This basic figure comes with a headscarf/shawl. As expected with a bargain figure, there are no alternate scarves for Jyn to wear differently as she does in the film. It is, however, removable, so this is a plus. The pistol fits snugly in the holster or in her hand. Jyn comes with yet another Hasbro invention for an accessory: a strange, shoulder mounted missile launcher, which, based on its upward angle, would seem to be anti-aircraft in purpose. It interacts well enough for its intended design, but who cares, eh?
This is the basic Jyn figure, in an outfit that is her most iconic. It might not be as good a figure as the Ground Crew Disguise version, but that serves only a very specific purpose. It is, of course, lightyears ahead of the abysmal Eadu version.
But here’s the real problem with this figure: You don’t need it at all, because you could probably walk in to almost any WalMart and find the same character in a superior super-articulated version. But, if for some reason your WalMarts are so inundated with Finns, Leias, and Hans that there are no SA Jyns to be found, you could always wait for that figure to be re-released in Wave 1 of The Vintage Collection. Or…or…you could even wait for the next waive of The Last Jedi figures, where this 5POA version will be released again - this time, with a Force Link voice chip. In fact, with 4 5POA releases and 2 SA releases, there are so many chances to buy Jyn Erso (Jedha) in this scale, Hasbro might as well change their logo to a picture of Jyn.
Jyn!
