Director Krennic is one of those characters that was just asking to be made into an SA figure.  He was the main baddie in Rogue One, and that’s reason enough.  So instead, we have suffer through a 5POA version.  Is this acceptable for the time being?  And “time” could mean years away from any shot at a TVC slot.

It meets the 5POA baseline.  The slightest complaint is that my sample took a little coaxing to stand, as the feet weren’t flat/straight enough unless you maneuvered the legs to a very slightly non-neutral stance.  Otherwise, it’s a pretty good looking figure.  The uniform is sharp, although the pants blouse a bit too much, I feel.  There is a holster sculpted onto the belt, which is a big plus.  The black paint applications on the belt and holster are somewhat sloppy, which is a shame, as the overspray stands out sharply against the bright white tunic.  There are two things about the figure that stand out.  The face sculpt is is excellent, and bears a remarkable resemblance to Ben Mendelsohn.  The eyes are probably a bit larger than necessary at this scale, but I believe they fall short of negatively impacting the face.  The other feature I like is the cape.  While I usually prefer soft goods, we know that the molded plastic can give the figure a more realistic look, while possibly sacrificing some freedom of movement of various joints.  In this case, Hasbro created a molded plastic cape, but the plastic is particularly light and thin. It has enough “give” in it to allow Krennic to move his arms pretty freely, even while wearing it.

Krennic interacts with his pistol well, as he can grip it tightly, or stow it in the holster.  The silly rocket launcher that is included isn’t Hasbro’s best effort.  Krennic can’t really wear his cape while holding it, but more importantly, I can’t really imagine Krennic firing a rocket launcher while in his white uniform.  I don’t know.  Maybe.  He was pretty hands on, for a high-ranking Imperial officer, I guess.  His stance causes a bit of a problem as I tried to precariously balance the figure while holding the launcher.  It wasn’t entirely stable.

He’s missing his black hat, which he really should have.  He spent significant screen time with and without his hat on, and I don’t know if a removable officer’s hat was an option in the budget line.  If an SA version is ever made, I would hope for a definitive version which would include a removable hat, as well as an alternate cape and possibly even a switch-out rank to serve as the earlier uniform as seen earlier in his career when he confronted Galen Erso on Lah’mu.  Also, it would be important that his articulation allow him to grasp his collar as Vader does his Vader-y thing.

It’s a solid offering for 5POA, but Krennic is sorely missed in the SA line.  It’s pretty much a necessary figure to own, however, as his role in the movie demands that you have at least some 3.75” representation.  The only real drawback is the possibility that his slightly unbalanced nature wasn’t limited to my sample.
