Here’s a figure that was apparently meant to avoid a huge mind-blowing spoiler, but it’s weird how it was handled. It got caught up in that whole #wheresrey thing. To that, I say, “She’s right there, in those pictures.” I’m more concerned about my Rey Monopoly piece.
As a figure, it’s decent. The sculpt is pretty good, though nothing too special. The head has a nice range of motion, as do the arms and legs, which for whatever reason is something that Hasbro doesn’t execute well with many of the figures in this line. Rey’s head sculpt seems to be pretty good, but the paint applications definitely leave something to be desired. The lips are not painted in the proper place, giving her an awkward look. The eyes are also off a bit. The whole look to the face is not only too cartoonish, but it just doesn’t resemble Daisy Ridley in any way. The sculpt on the clothing is fine, but the paint is sloppy, with plenty of overspray and bleeding, unfortunately.
The figure comes with 2 regular accessories. The staff can be gripped in either hand, and also slung over her shoulder or across her back. She also comes with a backpack, which is the same as the one that came with the Walmart Black Series figure. It has adjustable straps, and fits well over the figure. Rey also comes with a part to the build-a-weapon thing, but it’s basically garbage.
The strange part about this figure is that it is called “Starkiller Base”. Sure, Rey wore this same outfit pretty much through the first 95% of the film, but one thing in particular that should make her Starkillery, would be the inclusion of Luke’s lightsaber. Of course, this was kind of a big spoiler, at least according to Disney or Hasbro or whoever is in charge of such decision making these days. I think it would have made more sense to name her “Jakku”, then she wouldn’t need the lightsaber anyway, and there’d be no spoiler issue. Perhaps Hasbro thought “Starkiller” would be more appealing, since the Walmart figure was already called “Jakku.” Whatever the reason, this figure is definitely missing the lightsaber.
The figure works as far as meeting the basic requirements of a 5POA figure. It gets a bonus point for the quality backpack, but loses a point for not having the lightsaber. I also think the face is pretty bad, so it goes down another notch. The only advantage of this figure over the SA version is that the hands are gloveless. It gets a 3.
