Here we get a second wave of 2-packs from the solo line. This should be awesome, considering only one of the three releases in wave 1 was related to Solo. Makes sense, right? NO, IT DOESN’T.
Moving along, this is probably one of the better offerings in the 5POA line going back to TFA. This two-pack contains a human male backgrounder, which already should tell you this is something that we normally shouldn’t expect to see these days. The character, Rebolt, earned his name because he bolted once before, and he’ll totally do it again. It would obviously be preferable if he came in SA form, but I have to admit, given his tiny role in the film, it’s probably good enough these days that he even exists at all.
Rebolt has a very nice sculpt, with excellent detailing, and well-executed paint operations. The outfit is textured well, and the paint adds an appropriate amount of depth and interest. The facesculpt, while not depicting a particularly recognizable person, is well done and reflects a decent level of personality. He comes with a staff, or rod, of some sort, probably meant to control the corellian hounds.
Speaking of Corellian hounds, one is included as the other member of this two-pack. It’s an all new figure, of course, but is somewhat reminiscent of Hasbro’s previously released Massiff creature. The Corellian hound is sufficiently vicious looking, and comes complete with four articulated legs, a swivel head and a hinged jaw, and a separately sculpted harness with a removable leash. The harness looks like it can be removed, but I didn’t try to do so.
But if you think the hound is too small to qualify as a valid second figure in a two-pack, you should b satisfied by one of the cooler accessories you can expect these days to be included in any figure pack. The hound cage comes in several parts and must be assembled, but when complete, it’s a pretty large accessory. The hound fits inside the cage, and has a working 2-part hinged door, which also serves as a ramp for the hound. Apparently, Rebolt cares about the health of his hound, and doesn’t want him injuring his joints by jumping out of his cage directly onto the ground. Rebolt is a good man, and deserves recognition in the archives of the ASPCA.
It’s a terrific pack. Backgrounder + animal + large accessory = win. It’s good to see that Hasbro has plans to continue to flesh out the Solo line, even if the effort features 5POA figures. Basic figures, multi-packs, vehicles, and playsets are all in the pipeline for Solo, and that should be viewed as a good thing.
This particular scene is fairly well complete, at least by today’s standards. Rebolt, hound, Moloch, the proper Han and Qi’ra, and even Han’s stolen speeder…the chase scene through Coronet would be complete if Hasbro gave us Moloch’s Speeder with a Syke figure. In the meantime, this set is worthy of consideration, even for the more discerning collector.
