From the basically terrible Walmart Black Series 3.75” line, we got a total of 8 figures from The Force Awakens.  This is actually twice as many as were released for Rogue One.  There were several iterations of Kylo Ren in the 5POA line; in TFA, RO, and TLJ packaging.  So far, this is the only super-articulated version of Kylo Ren in the one true scale, so say we all.

This is a very good looking figure.  The face mask is a bit sloppy with the paint apps, at least on my sample, but it still looks pretty decent.  The helmet sculpt, along with the plastic hood, work well from an aesthetic standpoint, but unfortunately, as is almost always the case with a head piece of this style, it doesn’t move enough to actually be considered a real point of articulation.  The body sculpt has a lot of fabric and texture details throughout, and looks great.  The lower robes are soft goods, and the material is nicely textured.  It doesn’t hinder the lower body movement, but underneath the fabric robes is a soft plastic skirt.  The plastic is malleable enough, and is also split vertically in several places, so that the legs can also move through this.

Upper body articulation is fine.  Kylo can wield is saber (or unlit hilt) in a variety of one or two handed poses.  Unfortunately, the leg articulation execution leaves something to be desired.  The joint styles don’t make it too easy to pose in a particularly wide range of motion.  On top of this, when I first removed the figure from the package, I couldn’t get it to stand.  After a few minutes of complete frustration, I gave up, and very nearly did a review on the spot just to give it a “0”.  But I persevered, and after a little bit of careful twisting and lining up the joints properly, he stands fine.  I think my sample had the hips and knees in poor alignment.  My other problem with the lower body is that the ankle joints do not have a sufficient range of motion to be effective at posing.  The ankles flex forward and back, and they move left and right, but they cannot be angled while remaining flat on the ground.  It’s a bit frustrating, but wide leg stances are difficult to achieve.  Seems to be the case for most of the recent figures.  I’m not a fan of this.

Overall, it’s nice to look at, but I wish the lower body articulation was executed better.  Also, this figure should have a swappable unmasked face - this is the collector line, after all.  As such, there is no super-articulated unmasked version of Kylo Ren in 3.75” form.  Hasbro needs to get moving on this stuff already.
