The movie Necessary Roughness stars Robert Loggia.  I could end this review with that and it would be my best review ever.  But I shall continue.  Mr. Loggia has the best line of the entire movie.  At half time of the final game, he says, “Now, let’s analyzie what’s been working for us. NOT A (expletive deleted) THING’S been working for us!”

I have to channel Coach Rig for this review.  Lets analyze what works about this figure.  NOT A (expletive deleted) THING works about this figure. This figure doesn’t look like the adorable Ms. Fisher at all.  It looks like it was based on her male stunt double in drag with lady of the night levels of makeup.  Even by POTF2 scaling standards, the figure is gigantic.  This may be so that the figure could interact with the equally gigantic POTF2 Ewok figures in a case of cascading fail.  The figure only has the POTF2 standard six points of swivel articulation, which is the reason for the rather brief gallery.  There’s only so much you can do with the figure.  The feet are posed in some ridiculous ballerina’s stance, which you can’t change due to this lack of articulation.  The predetermined stance makes the figure exceedingly difficult to stand unassisted.  I remember being so excited that this never before made figure was coming in 1998, and then immediately becoming frustrated at how difficult it was to make it stand without toppling.

As was the rage in the late nineties, the accessory is a ridiculously large sporting blaster.  It’s so big that it’s probably more accurate to call it a sporting carbine.  The blaster can only be held in the figure’s right hand as the left hand is posed open palmed to pat an Ewok on the head.  That right hand is rotated about 45 degrees.  This means if you want to pose this Ewok Village Princess Leia figure in a fantasy situation where she starts wiping out the walking teddy bears, she’ll have to hold the blaster in a sideways “gansta” grip.  Finally,  Princess Leia’s long locks are a blob of brown plastic with virtually no detail or subtlety.  It looks like someone dragged a fork across a hunk of brown clay and called it hair.  I’d expect better from a student in a Parks & Rec summer sculpting program.

The only redeeming thing I can say about the figure is that it exists.  The Ewok Village outfit for Princess Leia represents a significant costume for one of the major characters.  Despite this we have received only ONE mainline figure for this subject in 36 years (discounting the Priness Leia collection figure as a separate line).  Other than smuggler Lando and what are essentially minor costume reconfigurations (Echo Base Han and Dagobah Landing Luke), I can’t think of any other significant Original Trilogy core character costume that hasn’t had multiple figure releases.  There has been a recent flurry of Princess Leia figure news with the 4th ever Leia in Boushh disguise figure and the 2nd Yavin Celebration Princess Leia recently announced/leaked.  It is high time the Ewok Village Princess Leia figure gets updated.  Hasbro has completed definitive updates to almost all of the Endor based characters in the last eight year, but this one major piece remains woefully dated.  Hopefully 2015 has some good news on this front as the lead-up to Episode VII is supposed to be Episode VI heavy.

Only because I’m still happy that an Ewok Village Princess Leia figure exists at all will I give this figure a 2 out of 10.

R as in Robert Loggia. O as in “Oh my god, it’s Robert Loggia.” B as in “By God! It’s Robert Loggia.” E as in “Everybody loves Robert Loggia.” R as in Robert Loggia. T as in “Tim, look over there! It’s Robert Loggia.” Space. L as in “Look! It’s Robert Loggia.”
