I think I pretty much covered how I feel about this figure when I recently reviewed the Bespin Luke Skywalker from the TFA line a few weeks ago. I just completed an exhaustive research project, and determined that Hasbro has released no fewer than 3,654,921 Darth Vader figures since 1995. This figure might be better than than the first 3 or 4 that came out in the POTF2 line, but the next 3,654,917 or 3,654,918 figures were definitely better. Even the Lava Vader from ROTS is better. These are the facts of the figure line, and they are undisputed.
The figure is garbage. 5POA, with a swivel head, no less. Even the cape is terrible, as it is see-through. Believe it or not, the best…well, least hateful…part of the figure is actually the build-a-weapon part. It’s supposed to join with 2 other pieces, and serves as a tripod of sorts. But Hasbro did a decent job in making this thing mildly interesting, because it is designed to look like a Probe Droid. It’s kind of like the silly weapon that came with the Rey from the RO line, where the thing looked like her speeder. When the best thing you can say about these figures is that the build-a-weapon piece isn’t the worst thing you’ve ever seen, it’s a sad day indeed.
At least this figure makes marginally more sense in the TFA line than Bespin Luke. Vader’s melted helmet made a cameo in the film. And while Luke himself was actually in the movie, the choice to release him in his Bespin fatigues is rather strange. But enough about Luke. Let’s talk more about this Vader figure. On second thought, let’s not.
I mentioned in that Luke review that it made me angry that I owned it because I had purchased it by accident, when I specifically intended to pass on it completely. Well, in the interest of working towards a more complete gallery section here at Bantha Skull, I just bought this figure so I could write up what you are reading now. Therefore, I blame you people for this. I’m sure that the guilt you feel is far worse than any punishment you might receive. Now, don’t you feel terrible? Don’t you feel remorse for what you have done? Well, that’s all I’m going to say about poor Flick. I mean, poor Vader.
The figure gets a 2, only because I like the BAW piece and because Vader’s helmet was in the film. Basically, it sucks. Stay away. Now, let’s all just move on with our lives.
