Here’s a two-pack that was missing from the Rogue One line.  Although we got both figures in the line, it would have made a lot of sense to sell them as a pair.  Of course, that sub-line seemed to be based on the “vs.” concept, so I guess it kind of precluded them from being sold together, but that’s Hasbro’s problem, eh?  So, here we get the pair together in the TLJ line.

These figures are essentially repacks, but there will be some slight differences, most seemingly unintentional and probably due to being produced in different factories.  There are some slight paint variations, but very little is noteworthy.  The accessories are different, and that’s where the set shines when compared to the original versions.

Chirrut is essentially the same figure as the basic one from the Rogue One line, however, the face is markedly better, in my opinion.  There are slight variances in the eyebrows and mouth, but the eyes are very different.  It is a much more visually pleasing effect with this figure.  On the negative side, the paint applications, especially around the belt details, are a little sloppier than the original on my samples.  Chirrut comes with the same staff that accompanied the basic figure.  He can hold it, although not as strongly as he probably should.  The bowcaster is all new, and much more screen accurate.  It’s actually two pieces, which plug into each other for the full effect, although each can be used separately should you desire.  The wacky bowcaster accessory that came with the basic figure was actually a large nonsensical Hasbro invention, with the spring-loaded fire missile.  This one is pretty much straight from the movie.  Big upgrade there.

Baze is also essentially the same figure.  Again, he has slight paint variations, mostly due to manufacturing differences rather than being intentional.  As with Chirrut, the colors are slightly different.  The face is also a bit better than the Rogue One version, although more subtle than they are with Chirrut.  Baze comes with the same movie-accurate blaster and backpack here, but again, the real winner is the extra accessory.  While not screen accurate, it is far better than the insane monstrosity that came with the Rogue One version.  It’s actually kind of a cool looking Gatling gun.  Amazingly, the barrel really spins, but unfortunately, it only does so manually.  It would have been pretty sweet if they had managed to make it rotate with some kind of trigger.

All in all, it’s a good set.  The negatives are that these are probably figures you already own.  But if you’re very particular, I would say give these a look, because Chirrut is noticeably a nicer figure (better face and movie-accurate bowcaster) and Baze is slightly better (face paint, cooler extra accessory).  If you were unable to add these characters to your collection last year, then you’ll definitely be interested in these this time around.  I’ll give this set a generous 6, despite the figures essentially being repacks.

EDIT:  Added the phrases from the Force Link chip in the last two pictures.  Unforgivably, Chirrut does not say his complete line:  “I am one with The Force and the Force is with me.”
