I never read any of that New Jedi Order stuff, but I know that the Solo family was apparently a gigantic part of the story.  Han and Leia had 3 kids, including twins Jacen and Jaina.  Both characters were made into action figures which appeared together in this legendary (and now, “Legends”) final Legacy Collection wave that was exclusive to the legendary Toys R Us.  Jacen was trained by his Uncle Luke, but at some point after the death of his brother Anakin, he was held captive by the Yuzhaan Vong and briefly went to the Dark Side.  He managed to come back to the light, and grew into a very powerful Jedi who was largely responsible for the defeat of the Yuzhaan Long.  Later, he had a vision that if he did not turn to the Dark Side, Luke was going to die and the galaxy would suffer, so he agreed to become the apprentice of Sith Lord Lumiya.  As Darth Caedus, he eventually took control of the Galactic Alliance, and did many terrible things, including killing his aunt, Mara Jade Skywalker.  Finally, he was killed by Jaina.  Serves him right for being a putz.

Many EU fans were clamoring for the twins to be made, and they got both here in the same wave.  This Jacen Solo figure is quite nice, if not particularly remarkable.  It’s very similar to Luke’s Bespin Fatigues outfit.  It is well sculpted, and while the paint job is simple, it is applied nicely.  The face sculpt is solid, and actually struck me as being somewhat similar to the new Alden Ehrenreich Solo figure faces.  It works out well.  The figure is fully super articulated, although lacks anything special to give it JLA (Jedi Level Articulation).  He can be put into action poses that are typical of SA figures of this era.

The most interesting part of this figure are the accessories.  The green-bladed lightsaber can be gripped well in either hand, and the figure can perform a THWG (Two Handed Weapon Grip), although not the THOC (Two Handed Overhead Chop).  Jacen Solo comes with 3 different Amphistaff creatures.  He apparently managed to surround himself with these creatures which served as powerful protection against the Yuzhaan Vong.  There is a large group of Amphistaffs that fit over his shoulders and chest.  A second smaller bit wraps around his arms.  Finally, an large snake-like Amphistaffs, complete with the head, can be wrapped around the figure in such a way that the head can hover near Jacen in a menacing manner.  They’re all very unique accessories, and when assembled, make for a striking figure.  These are what make the figure special, rather than just being a plain-looking Jedi.

This will likely be the only Jacen Solo figure we ever get, being that he is no longer canon.  Fans of the Solo children can rejoice, however, as there is plenty of opportunity to own a Kylo Ren figure from canon.  As for Jacen, he’s pretty much definitive, although updated JLA would, of course, make this figure better, as would the inclusion of an unlit hilt and belt peg hole.  But none of that is likely to happen.  This figure is all-around solid, does some serious fan service, and comes with unique accessories.  It gets an 8/10.

Build-A-Droid

Jacen Solo contains the head of BG-J38.  This worker drone droid served as Jabba the Hutt’s personal dejarik and hologames droid.  Source:  Return of the Jedi

Verdict: No Action (In the main line)

Like K’Kruhk, which we re-reviewed recently, this figure goes for high prices on eBay.  Loose samples seem to go for about $75, with carded samples fetching over $100.  But also like K’Kruhk, I don’t recommend a main line repack.  Many hardcore fans would like another shot at this wave of figures, but if this is going to happen, it had better be as some kind of exclusive multipack.  These figures, especially in the 2009 sculpts, should not be re-released as basic TVC figures.  Do an exclusive at some point, and call it a day.

Verdict Guide:
Re-sculpt = The figure is not definitive, and a new version should be developed.
Re-issue = This version is definitive (or close enough), and shows sufficient secondary market demand to warrant a straight repack.
No Action = This release does not require new attention.
