Jodo Kast seemed to be a pretty popular dude among fans back in the Expanded Universe days.  I wasn’t into the funny pages, so I really wasn’t that familiar with him.  When he was announced, fans were excited, but I had to look him up.  I thought he was that Concord Dawn guy, but that’s not the case.  Jodo Kast was apparently a bit of a schmuck.  The basics of his story are that he was a sub-par bounty hunter who assumed the identity of Boba Fett after his apparent death in the Sarlacc Pit.  He wore Mandalorian armor, even though he wasn’t a Mandalorian, and that was considered to be cultural appropriation and was generally frowned upon in most galactic establishments.  He had his 15 minutes of fame, until Boba Fett turned up not dead.  He confronted Jodo Kast, and defeated him.  First he poisoned him, and then blew him up with his own jet pack.  Boba was pretty bad a**, at least outside what we saw on screen in the OT.

Hasbro released this guy in the Blue Legacy Collection.  But they chose to repaint a pretty crappy Boba Fett sculpt.  At least from the waist down it was decent, with ball jointed knees and ankles.  But the upper body was pretty much garbage, even by 2008 standards.  He had “swivel” shoulders and swivel elbows.  The first is in quotes because even the outdated swivel shoulders were actually connected to an action feature (YES, I SAID ACTION FEATURE) in which you pushed the backpack missile down to have his arms go up and down violently, often flinging his weapon away like a schmuck.  It seemed to be a fitting sculpt for a sub-par individual.

The helmet was decent looking, and had a working and removable sensor scope.  The rifle was standard Boba Fett fare, although he only came with the one weapon.  Hasbro opted to leave out the flaming jet figure stand, although I actually think that was a pretty cool accessory on the Boba Fett figure.  I would still display that figure on the deck of my Sail Barge if it didn’t fall off the temporary shelf I have in my basement and shatter into many pieces.*

The colors are pretty striking, but this is otherwise a very lackluster figure.  An outdated sculpt was used for an inexpensive repaint in a wave of repaints.  I generally was in favor of the repaint strategy as it gave us a bunch of backgrounders that we would otherwise not have.  But even at the time, better Fett sculpts existed as the base for a repaint.  It’s too bad, because it would have been great to see a better effort made for this fan favorite EU figure, because it is pretty much an impossibility to ever see Hasbro revisit this character again….

OR IS IT?

I give this bad figure a 3.  Get it at your own risk.  Or just wait for a better version that will never come…

OR WILL IT?

*Nah, I’m kidding.  Just seeing if you’re actually reading this.
