Towards our goal of filling out our galleries and reviews, we’ll continue to go back in time to add or update an entry.  We recently went on a (horrific) journey through the ROTS figures in honor of ROTS20.  Now, in honor of nothing, here’s Sly Moore from the OTC line.

The Original Trilogy Collection followed the 2002-2004 Saga Collection, and refocused the line on the Original Trilogy during the short break between AOTC (which didn’t have its own named line) and ROTS.  To fill that gap, Hasbro gave us a bunch of retreads, with a few new figures sprinkled in.  The line look was sort of a modernized take on the old Kenner look, which was already being mimicked in the concurrent VOTC line of premium figures.  As the calendar turned to 2005 and moved closer to the premiere of ROTS, Hasbro threw a curve and introduced a bunch of prequel figures in the same OTC-style packaging for the first wave of the year.  Collectors called it “Post-Original Trilogy Collection” (POTC), although I don’t believe there was anything official about this.  It was probably coined by Dan Curto, but I don’t know this for sure.  The first 5 numbered figures of the year were all debut characters, or a debut outfit in the case of Queen Padmé Amidala of House Naberrie (Theed City Victory Celebration and Orb of Peace Gift to the Gungan Grand Nation).  Weirdly, Hasbro returned to OT-sourced figures for the remainder of the line, until ROTS supplanted it.

Sly Moore is one of the 5 PT figures in the POTC line.  Sly Moore appeared in AOTC, where she can be seen in Palpatine’s Office (lobbying Hasbro for a Palpatine’s Office playset) as well as in the Senate (lobbying Hasbro for a Senate Playset).  She then appeared in ROTS where she was enjoying the opera in Palpatine’s box seat, when she was rudely ordered to leave before Palpatine regaled Anakin with the telling of the Tragedy of Darth Plagueis The Creepy Cave Lurker.  She again appeared in the Senate, notably when Palpatine declared the establishment of the First Galactic Empire.

I’m not that well-versed in Sly Moore’s EU backstory, but apparently she was abducted from her home planet of Umbarra by Darth Maul, and joined the Sith cause.  Her loyalty was to Palpatine and his grand plan, rather than her home planet.  She served in the Republic as Palpatine’s aide, despite her home planet fighting on the side of the Separatists.  Umbarra was featured in the second best arc in TCW history, when the 501st battled their near-equals in the Umbarran military, until stupid idiot Pong Krell showed up and ruined Star Wars.

This figure is basically a statue, although the sculpt is quite nice.  The body has no articulation, and her gown covers her separately sculpted legs - which prevents the figure from being a typical uni-legged salt shaker.  However, the legs are not articulated.  The shoulders are swivel.  Interestingly, she has true ball jointed elbows.  They are not the swivel/hinge combo that we commonly see today; they are true ball joints.  Sly also has a ball jointed neck.

The face is sculpted nicely, and does a decent job (by 2004 standards) of representing her ghostly and gaunt face.  The gown has some pretty nice patterns sculpted into it, and her arms/hands are wrapped like a mummy.

The only accessory is a removable shawl/cowl.  It’s sculpted quite well, with a lot of detail from the “feathers” or “fur” that is the on screen prop.  For a poorly articulated figure from 20+ years ago, it’s a nice looking effort, it just doesn’t do much.  For the “she just stands there” crowd, the figure does the trick.  The “she just stands there” crowd should also go kick rocks.

Sly Moore would definitely be a candidate for an update because it’s so outdated, but I’m absolutely not campaigning for one.  A newly tooled Sly Moore is ranked 1726th on my list of things I want for the line.  For the record, Pong Krell didn’t make the list at all.

She gets a 5/10 just for existing and not looking completely terrible in 2025.
