Boba Fett (Morak) has finally arrived from Target.  While I have oft stated how fond I am of Target, and am generally thrilled when it is awarded an exclusive over the likes of that vile Walmart, I admit that one of the weird issues that plague the retailer is the lack of transparency with regard to release dates - even estimates.  You dutifully place your pre-order, and then you simply turn out the lights and wait in the dark, with nary a peep from the Bullseye as to approximately when it might ship.  The website simply states, in maddening fashion, “Check back upon release date.”  Whatever.  When it comes to TVC these days, I have had to train myself to be patient.  Without that patience, the hobby would no longer be enjoyable.  So I willingly give myself up to the Target logistics gods, and it ships when it ships.

I used Popfindr to see that the Targets in the Phoenix area were suddenly loaded with the Morak Boba figure.  I hit 2 different stores to acquire myself the 3 that I wanted from back rooms via the kind stock clerks.  I then cancelled the online order I had placed, no longer needing those.  At this point, I am caught up with 5 of the 6 Target exclusives for this year (the 3 animated Droids figures, Koska, and Migs).  I am still dutifully checking popfindr for the arrival of Axe Woves, which I assume is imminent, since he’s popping up at some places in the U.S. now.

Boba Fett (Morak) is a retooling of the deluxe Boba Fett (Tatooine) figure.  If you’re easily confused or forgetful, like me, you’ve already forgotten what this sentence was saying.  But to get back on track, I was having difficulty remembering which outfit was which for Boba in The Mandalorian timeline, which was interrupted and intersected by The Book of Boba Fett series.  So here it is in a nutshell:  Boba confronts Din on Tython, where he regains his scratched up armor.  We don’t yet have that figure in TVC.  In the next episode, Fett helps Din and Migs infiltrate and escape from the Imperial Facility on Morak.  Here, Fett seems to be wearing the same outfit, but took the time to repaint and clean up his armor.  He is wearing the same duds in next episode, where he helps Din and friends in the bid to rescue Grogu from Gideons cruiser.  In the credits scene of that episode, he is still wearing this same “Morak” outfit when he kills Fat Bib Fortuna and takes the throne in Jabba’s Palace.  We don’t see Fett change his pants until we seem him on Tatooine in his own show, after he’s taken over as Daimyo.  That is the outfit we got in the Deluxe (Tatooine) figure.  So as far as we’ve seen so far, we have 2 of the 3 armored versions of Fett.

Besides a few minor cosmetic changes in weathering, the main differences between the Morak and Tatooine figures are the legs and the soft goods kama.  Here, he’s got baggy pants, and a shmata for a kama.  Seriously, the material used is frayed and the threads easily fall out.  Not sure how long it will last if you mess with it too much.  It’s my one major complaint about the figure.  It’s otherwise just as great as the Tatooine deluxe figure, other than the reduction in included accessories.  While that figure (for a higher price point) came with two damaged stormtrooper helmets, it also came with a removable rocket from the jet pack, and two jet flames.  The jet pack here is one piece, with no flames.  It’s also a slightly different sculpt for some reason.  He comes with a blaster and rifle, along with a removable helmet.  The helmet does not have an articulated rangefinder.

One other issue here is the price.  While the Tatooine version came with extra accessories and was packed in the boxed look of the deluxe line, this one is carded like a basic figure.  It doesn’t come with any special accessories to justify the price above a main line release.  It just cost more.  I don’t really know why.  It’s some combination of it being an exclusive, having soft goods, and excellent paint apps that might be beyond a typical figure.  But while it’s a great figure, it’s hard to understand the $21 price point.  But that aside, it’s hard to not give it a 10, like the Tatooine release.
