On the one hand, this is a really odd choice for TVC figure.  Officially, as indicated by the source logo on the card, VC238 is a playable “hero” character in the online multiplayer version of Battlefront II.  Lando showed up as such wearing the same clothes that he sported in the very last scene of Solo, where Han beats him at Sabacc and wins the Millennium Falcon.  One of the oddities is that the figure isn’t just sourced to the film, but an esoteric appearance in a part of a video game that many collectors likely never saw.  My assumption is that the figure never would have seen the light of day as a basic figure, so it was labeled as BFII in order to work as a Gaming Greats exclusive.  Just to jam this point home, Hasbro again received professional advice fro the Department of Redundancy Department, as the card sports the stylized “race track” logo with “Battlefront II” inside, while also being subtitled in the name pill as “Star Wars:  Battlefront II”.

Another reason why this works well as a Gaming Greats figure is because this Lando, like so many other TVC figures from Disney-era sources, would be alone in a display of the fateful sabacc game table on Numidian Prime.  Other than Han and a 5POA Chewbacca, there are no other figures to go along with that.  But, throw in some random troopers, and “boom”, you have a Battlefront II diorama.

The figure is a straight repaint of VC139, with one major exception - and a welcome one, to be sure.  Instead of the plastic cape, this Lando comes with an outstanding soft goods cape.  It looks great, and is cut nicely to give a fairly realistic appearance, if a bit on the dynamic side.  This is a huge improvement in my opinion, and wish Hasbro had done this for the original figure.  A highlight here is the patterned shirt.  The “tampo” used is pretty darn close to actual prop, and looks great.  interestingly, it’s only on the front of the shirt. If you take off the cape, the back of the shirt is just plain.  Also, to be nitpicky, the shirt style isn’t exactly screen accurate.  Obviously Hasbro just repainted his “main outfit” shirt, complete with the chest flap. This one should have just a regular open collar showing off his bling.  And to be even more nitpicky, the scarf is actually knotted loosely, and doesn’t just hang around his neck.  These are essentially irrelevant to me for a figure this minor.

Overall, it’s a great figure.  The face sculpt and paint apps hold up perfectly today, and it looks like a great 1:18 Donald Glover.  While it lacks rocker ankles, that’s okay here, and I totally forgive Hasbro.  The only real negative here is that the holster is still glued to the hip, restricting range of motion a bit.  We gave VC139 a 9/10.  Even over the short period of time, I could consider slicing off a point just because it isn’t as mind-blowing as some more modern figures, but the soft goods cape and shirt tampo make the grade, and I’ll keep it at a 9/10. I was surprised at this release, but glad we have it.  I wish we had more figures from Solo, but I’ll take what I can get.
