As far as action figures go, I felt about Bib Fortuna the same way I felt about Lobot.  Their existing best versions certainly weren’t great when compared to modern figures, but they were actually pretty darn good.  If Hasbro had re-packed either OTC figure in TVC, it would have been a borderline tragedy.  But my concern was that with so few opportunities for newly tooled figures available today, would I want a brand new version of either character?  I thought the answer was, “no.”  But it’s hard to complain once you have either in hand, and are able to marvel at them in person.  They instantly render their predecessors irrelevant.  But again, if these were never made, I’d probably live in ignorant bliss.  This is in stark comparison to how I feel about the OT heroes, in which I lose sleep at night because the best Episode IV versions of Luke and Obi-Wan go back to 2009, and you have to go to 2004 for Leia and Han.

So while I would have preferred something other than a new Bib Fortuna in the line, I certainly can’t complain about the final product.  Bib Fortuna is tremendous.  No, not of tremendous stature like his The Book of Boba Fett teaser scene from The Mandalorian.  But tremendous as in awesome.

It’s always great to get an alien sculpt in the modern line, even if it’s not a debut character.  Hasbro worked their magic and produced a great headsculpt.  The PhotoReal is outstanding, although I would have preferred a slightly less confused look on Bib’s face, and maybe something with a little more attitude.  Nevertheless, the details on the skin including the blotchy blues that look like varicose veins on his lekku.  The sculpt of the body is largely hidden by the robes, but the arms (with bracelets) and hands are appropriately detailed.  His long slender fingers and pointy nails are well represented here.  Concealed by the lower robes are VC205’s Lando’s legs.  At least we know Hasbro was trying to make the most out of that Lando mold.

For articulation, you get the now-standard version, which is to say it’s great, but (appropriately) less than Jedi-Level.  Bib lacks the new ball and socket hips, as well as rocker ankles, but has everything else.  The ball jointed wrists give you the opportunity to pose the figure with a nice amount of haughty personality as he gestures like a Price is Right model.  The cloth robes and skirts barely hinder the range of motion of the shoulder and hip joints, so you could pose Bib fairly dynamically, although most people would be find leaving him standing in a neutral position.

Besides the amazing headsculpt, the other main attraction here is the soft goods robe and skirt. As mentioned, neither ruin the articulation, which is important.  But better yet, they look incredible.  The colors are perfect.  Hasbro went all out in crafting the outer robes.  They fall naturally over the figure’s body, and the layers add depth in a way that has never been done before.  You wonder if one day Hasbro might try their hands at soft goods for an ornate dress for Padmé.

The only complaint some might have would be the lack of accessories.  I’ve read a lot of collectors wish that this figure included a staff that would relate back to the original Kenner accessory. “Nonsense!” I say.  The staff wasn’t in the film, and was just a piece of Kenner silliness.  I don’t need any additional nod to Kenner when to me, the damned figure itself is the nod.  It’s nostalgia on top of nostalgia.  Not needed.  Plus, you’ll get the stupid thing with your Fat Bib figure in the Throne room set.  The other accessory people gripe about is the knife that was included with the OTC figure.  This dagger was part of some EU story, which obviously is no longer canon.  Again, who needs a non-canon accessory?  I’d rather Hasbro save the money and do something else.  And to me, they went all out on the robes, and it was worth every penny.

Bib Fortuna is a beloved OT secondary character, and his appearance (albeit brief) getting offed by Boba Fett was fantastic and made him relevant again.  This is a great figure and will look amazing in the palace or on the Khetanna.  Get several.  9/10 - just because it’s hard to say this is as good as a more dynamic trooper or Jedi figure that Hasbro pumps out by the boatload these days, but the uniqueness of the design elevates it.
