One thing about these Retro figures is that I have to admit it’s kind of cool to see a near-pristine version of the Kenner original.  The figures I remember having were dirty, scraped, chipped, and outright broken.  When I was an idiot kid, I played with my toys, and the toys showed it.  It wasn’t until much later in life that I learned that toys are meant to be displayed and curated.  Only monsters actually play with them.

This Luke is the third figure we’re looking at in Hasbro’s retro line.  It is the first one that has a bit of an issue standing.  My sample has a tendency to tip over if not carefully positioned.  Other than that, it’s Luke.  I found it kind of funny that I had no recollection of the lightsaber having the narrow extension.  I had thought that was only the case for the double telescoping versions.  I had to check other sources for images of the Kenner original, and realized that the single lightsaber did indeed look like this.  I had wrongly though that it was a bit of an homage by Hasbro to the rarer early bird lightsaber.  Oh well. I guess that due to my aforementioned play habits as an idiot kid, all the tips of the sabers had broken off.

We pretty much covered our feelings about this Retro line in our Chewbacca review, so we won’t beat that dead horse.  But basically, if you’ve had a hunger to own replicas of figures with styling from 1978, this is for you.  If you’re a carded collector and don’t want to shell out a ton of cash for the real thing, these make nice substitutes.  If you don’t fall into either category, then these figures are probably not for you.
