Hey! It’s not a repaint! Well, it kind of is. It’s actually a kitbash, which adds an important, if poorly chosen, new paint application.
The first Padmé in a similar white outfit that she wore for the final act of Attack of the Clones was 02-02 Padmé Amidala (Arena Escape) from the 2002 SAGA line. That was a figure that had an action feature and a bizarre preposed action stance, but it is saved from complete obsolescence because of the decent accessories that are included. That figure shows Padmé after she sustains the injury from the Nexu claws, which also ripped her shirt, exposing her midriff and arms. Shortly thereafter, Hasbro gave us 03-04 Padmé Amidala (Droid Factory Chase). That version gave us the Padme with her shawl, which she wore during the sequence in the droid foundry. It was another strange figure, with a oddly pre-posed body, and a screaming face. Again, the figure is saved from obsolescence by the accessories.
This was the third figure of the white-outfitted AOTC Padmé. This one would have served as the version she wore after she was captured. She entered the arena as a prisoner without her shawl. And her outfit is still in one piece, prior to her run-in with the business end of the Nexu’s paws. That would be all well and good, as you theoretically would have all the Padme’s you need to cover the entire sequence of jumpsuit variants. However…more on that in a bit.
The figure’s head is from the Arena Escape Padmé, while the body is from the Droid Chase figure. It lacks the cape and most other accessories, only including the droid blaster. And here begins the problem. The “repaint’ part I mentioned in the opening paragraph gives the figure the bloody scratches on her back, but the white jumpsuit midriff and arms remain intact. Padmé only acquires the blaster after she frees herself from the chains on the pillar and is rescued from the Nexu by Anakin on his trusty Reek steed.
What we end up with is an anachronism of an action figure. It’s not screen accurate in any way. This was therefore an error of a figure that should never have been made. It’s almost like Hasbro had the right idea, but then totally botched it before production. This figure was essentially obsolete as soon as it was designed. It’s essentially worthless, and has no accessories that can redeem it. It’s obsolete, and was such right out of the package. I’d almost want to give it a zero just for that, but I’ll be kind and give it a 2. Don’t bother with this at all.
Note that the last picture in the gallery above is the closest thing you can get to screen accuracy. Ditch the included blaster, add the binders from another figure, and you could try to fudge it as existing at the instant the Nexu is in mid swipe - cutting Padmé‘s back, while not quite ripping the jumpsuit until the next frame. Nah, it really doesn’t work. Did I mention not to bother with this figure?
