Hey look! Another repaint! Well, Hasbro knew that consumers loved clone variants, so every once in a while they tried to give those clones something to shoot at. The forces of the Confederacy of Independent Systems do seem to get the short end of the stick, but there are plenty of CIS droids and ships out there if you’re interested. Here’s an odd repaint of a “meh” figure.
Hasbro took the ROTS Super Battle Droid, along with the swappable cannon arm, and gave it a Kashyyyk-style repaint with some forrest camo coloring. Seems logical that the CIS forces would add some environmental-specific paint to their droid armies when fighting in certain regions. I can’t recall actually seeing this happen in practice in any of the films. Maybe this occurred in The Clone Wars episodes, or perhaps someone has a behind the scenes shot from one of them picture pages learnin’ books.
The figure can stand on it’s own, but beware of warping legs. The soft plastic used for the limbs will definitely deform over time. I have a few of these, and they all got the bends over time. The original figure on which this is based was given a strange leaning action stance, and that obviously carries over to this repaint. It’s not awful, but I certainly do prefer my figures to lack the preposings that many figures from this era have. Nevertheless, it looks pretty decent, especially when aiming the wrist blasters on it’s right arm, which also accommodate the small, red double blast effect accessory.
The main “feature” of the figure is probably something that most collectors can do without. The right arm is swappable with a large cannon, which has a spring loaded projectile activated by a small button on the side. The arms swap easily, the figure can balance pretty well with the large and relatively heavy cannon in place, and the launcher button is well hidden so as not to be too obtrusive - beyond the general obtrusiveness of the giant cannon itself, of course.
So you can ignore this altogether and just keep the regular arm attached, or you can vary it up with the cannon arm. In the end, it’s not a terrible addition to your CIS forces, especially to fight your Wookiees and Elite Corps Clones. Better Super Battle Droid sculpts have been made since, but the camo paint keeps this relevant. 6 out of 10.
