We continue on with another repaint in The Saga Collection. It’s a good one. It’s not as exciting in retrospect, but this was a good figure to get out there. It’s a repaint of the excellent Phase I Clone Trooper that came with the Entertainment Earth packs, which differ only from the awesome 03-50 Clone Trooper in that they have peg holes in the feet.
It seems that there is one other difference, however, as Hasbro looked to have changed up the plastic that they used for this version, which even today, in 2020, remains bright white, whereas the previous releases yellowed over time.
You already know everything about the articulation, and you know that it holds up well today, especially if you prefer this stockier sculpt to the more modern skinny clone molds in TVC. This figure was released a couple of times in various “Saga Legends” repack sublines over the years. Most of us were really into the clone variants, but eventually that died down quite a bit.
One thing to note is that despite the aforementioned improvements, this figure is missing the full stripe that connects the green markings on the helmet fin (or “mohawk”) to the visor. If that bothers you, this may not be the clone sergeant you are looking for. But otherwise, it’s pretty great.
The excitement has worn off for sure, but admittedly it was a decent choice for a repaint back in 2006. The figure gets a solid 7.
