We know that Hasbro goes through phases.  2002 was the pre-pose / action feature / blast effect / magnet phase.  2016 was the Nerf Phase.  2020 is the “I can’t find any TVC figures” phase.  But 2004-2006 was definitely the hologram/holograph phase.  By my count Hasbro released 317 holographic figures.  They even released a holographic Blue Snaggletooth that was so rare, it never actually existed.  This is true.  Look it up by rereading this paragraph.  See?  It’s all true!

So here is the Holographic Clone Commander Cody.  I know many people dislike the holographic figures.  Sometimes it’s the character choice, sometimes it’s the sculpt choice, and sometimes it’s just a dumb idea.  However, in this case, Hasbro basically got it right.  They took the just released TSC 024 Clone Commander Cody, which wasn’t a bad figure and recast it in translucent blue plastic.  While he’s missing the large rifle, he still comes with the blaster, backpack, and removable helmet of the original release, all of which are cast in the same plastic.

Many of the repaints that appeared in TSC were of older base figures.  This one was almost brand new.  While it has since been surpassed, it was the best Cody at the time.  Strangely, for other holographic figures, like Ki-Adi Mundi, Hasbro opted for older sculpts.  This was especially maddening when this decision precluded the figure from achieving poses that were in the film.  Ki-Adi uses the 7 year old Episode 1 figure, which cannot sit in his Jedi Council Chair, even though a figure with that capability existed in Hasbro’s arsenal.

Here, Cody works great for the purposes of his appearances as a hologram in Revenge of the Sith.  First, he is part of the Zoom conference call led by Mace Windu, in which Cody, Ki-Adi, Yoda, and Aayla Secura all appear as holograms.  Cody even has his helmet off during this meeting.  Later, he has his helmet on as he received Order 66.  We see Cody get the transmission, but then we also see hi as a hologram from the perspective of Darth Sidious.  So the figure works well.

By today’s standards, it’s not so great anymore, but that’s okay.  For something like this, it serves it’s purpose, and there’s likely no reason to ever revisit it.  This one will do just fine in your displays.  There’s room for improvement, so we’ll note that in the status, but it’s good enough.  6/10.
