We return to our retrospective of The Saga Collection with Obi-Wan Kenobi from Episode I.  Again, it’s a retread.  In this case, it’s a kit bash of parts from 3 different Episode I Obi-Wan figures, from both the Episode 1 and POTJ lines.  The result is exactly what you would think.  Underwhelming.  A better figure would come along in 2009’s Legacy Collection (red).  That figure was re-released, with an additional Jedi communicator, as VC76 in The Vintage Collection, which is currently the best version of this character.

This isn’t a terrible figure.  It’s just that by 2006, Hasbro should have been able to do better than give us a kit bash of figures that were already 5-7 years old.  But that seems to be the story of The Saga Collection.  Lots of repacks, retools, repaints, and kit bashes.  Sometimes the strategy worked, other times, it was just…meh.  This is oneof those time.

So thanks to our esteemed (retired?) colleague, Mr. Curto, we know that this figure is nothing new.  It took parts from 3 previous figures and added a soft goods cloak.  It even maintains the 1999 era straight lightsaber blade (which some fans prefer, but nevertheless was the cheap way out here).  The figure is merely 8 POA, with swivels all around.  The only “special” feature is the soft Padawan braid, which is also old news (and not that great).

In the end, you get a barely poseable figure, with a strong backward lean just to stay upright.  Don’t bother with it.  Stick with the VC76 figure, or the nearly identical BD06.  This figure gets a 5/10, just because the few extra joints and soft goods cape put it a smidge above a typical 5POA figure.
