Around 2005-2006, Hasbro was at the height of its amorous relationship with holograph figures.  Most of them were substandard, because the sculpts used were not the best available. Such is the case for the Saga Collection Holographic Ki-Adi Mundi.

This figure uses the under-articulated Episode I mold, rather than the superior ROTS mold.  That figure, sadly is still the best Ki-Adi Mundi we have.  (A TVC upgrade is high on our list.). Maybe Hasbro was concerned about converting the soft goods robes of the ROTS version into something..holography.

I know what most of you are thinking.  “All he does is just stand there!”  Well, you can stuff your “all-he-does-is-just-stand-there’s” in a sack, mister.  Because he doesn’t just stand there.  He is in several scenes as a hologram while seated during Jedi Council meetings.  Most notably, as a hologram, he expresses concern for the droid attack on the Wookiees.

Quick aside:  What’s the deal with prequel memes?  There’s an obsession with that particular line on instagram.  It’s a silly line, as is most dialogue written by GL, but I don’t get why it’s become a meme.  Same thing with Obi-Wan Kenobi’s “Hello, there!”  Again, Instagram is obsessed with that one.  I never find those memes funny.  EVER.  Obviously, the world has passed me by.

Anyway, as you can see by a couple of the diorama shots in the gallery, there were scenes cut from the film where an enraged Ki-Adi Mundi stands up during the council meetings to tell Anakin to get off his lawn.  Nah, seriously, the figure can’t sit.  That’s important.  Why?  BECAUSE HE DOENS’T JUST STAND THERE!  I swear you people would be fine with chess pieces instead of action figures.  You disgust me.

There is a scene where he’s standing as a holograph, and that’s during a military briefing.  Mace and Anakin are present, while Yoda, Ki-Adi, Cody, and Aayla all practiced social distancing and used Zoom to phone it in.

So it’s fine that this exists, but it fails to accomplish the very important task of sitting.  That’s a shame.  This would probably qualify for a 4 as a simple 5POA-style figure, but I’ll give it a bonus point for being a scene-specific alternative of Ki-Adi.  I would have given it an extra point or two if it could sit.

It’s tough to classify this.  It’s probably the only holographic Ki-Adi we’ll ever get, which is fine, I guess.  It does the job of “just standing there” for the Windu briefing scene, but fails to do the job of “just sitting there” for the Council scenes.  If it had used the 2005 ROTS base figure, it would have been definitive enough.  I’ll call it close, even though it’s not really that close.
