I like the idea of this figure more than I actually like it. It’s basically terrible, but it had a neat concept that just kinda fell a bit flat. TSC 006 is a kit bash using parts from the VOTC Boba Fett in order to improve the thrice issued (each in slightly different colors) “blue” SAGA figure from 2002. That one was particularly terrible, but it started the “fiery stand” concept which Hasbro clung to for several years before finally giving up.
Basically (I might not have this 100% correct), the upper body of the 2002 figure is merged with the legs, head and rocket from the VOTC figure. That makes it the first TSC figure to sport ball jointed ankles. Unfortunately, most of the rest of the figure is garbage. It maintains the action feature consisting of you pressing the rocket down, which causes both arms to swing upward rather violently. It’s supposed to be a “quick draw” feature. It kind of works, but, well, we’re adults and we don’t need action features in our toys!
The VOTC legs allow for some bit of pose-ability with the lower body, but the upper body is restricted by the action feature. The only other item of note on the figure is the movable range finder on the helmet. That’sa nice.
The giant blast effect, which doubles as a figure stand, is neat in theory, but is just extremely overdone and is too cartoony. I’m sure Hasbro could manage to vastly improve on this type of thing today, to make it much more understated and realistic. Until then, this is what we have for “Lift Off Boba.”
Because of the flaming stand, this version of Boba Fett manages to earn a possible place in your display, if you were so inclined. The only two times we saw Fett ignite his jet pack were at the Battle of Carkoon. The first time was when he launched himself off the deck of the Khetanna to land on the prisoner skiff in an attempt to neutralize Luke. I remember when I was 10 seeing ROTJ on opening night, and the full house cheered when he did this. The legend of Boba Fett was in full swing. The second time he used the pack was after Han Solo accidentally ignited it, which caused Fett to sail wildly and smash into the Khetanna’s hull, and then roll unceremoniously into the maw of the almighty Sarlacc, where he got dead.
Or did he?
Due to the fiery stand, this figure manages to avoid the dreaded “obsolete” status, as we declare it has “other value.” There are obviously much better Boba Fett figures out there, but this one has its place, nevertheless.
Additionally, TSC 006 was the second TSC figure in the Ultimate Galactic Hunt. It was available as a packaging variant, with the silver foil, as well as the silver stand and mini-hologram. The regular and UGH figures were identical.
