Set 2 of 6 in the second round of Target exclusive Geonosis Arena Showdown 2-packs is a bit more inspired than the Obi-Wan SBD pairing from Set 1 of 6.  This time you get a background Jedi, and a highly articulated Battle Droid to add to your ranks.

In 2003, under the “Clone Wars” microseries banner, Hasbro released a 3-pack of unnamed background Jedi (near-statue) figures called the Jedi Knight Army.  One of those figures was a Rodian Jedi.  It was barely articulated, and came sculpted in an extreme action pose.  It was neat for the time, and can still pass for a DEEP background Jedi in your battle dioramas.  But the character never made it into the final version of Attack of the Clones. Nevertheless, Hasbro doubled down on that character and gave us a super-articulated update.

The figure is a repaint of a previously released body, with a new Rodian head.  It’s a striking figure, but sadly, the hard plastic lower tunic prevents any meaningful lower body posing.  Again, Hasbro declined to name the character on which the figure is based, so you may now have 2 unnamed Rodian Jedi that were never in the film.  Weird choice, but still cool to look at.  You can always just assume that this guy was in the Arena, and died with almost everyone else.

The Battle Droid isn’t anything particularly new, but the sculpt and paint job are excellent on this outstanding figure.  This one drops the full back pack and has just the antenna.  It comes with a standard blaster that it can grip in one hand, which will have to suffice until Hasbro can figure out the technology needed to sculpt in the articulation necessary for the figure to perform a two handed weapon grip.

A nice set. This one, likely due to the Rodian, is pretty expensive on Ebay.  It would be challenging to find it for less than $75.  Even loose ones fetch that much.
