The Imperial Knights were a cool concept from the Lecagy comics. They were Force practitioners who rejected the dark side of the Force, but did not follow the scriptures of the Jedi. The were considered Gray Jedi as symbolized by their colorless lightsabers. It was a refreshing concept and explored something other than the light side/dark side binary of the movies. Naturally, Disney’s first order of business was to toss all of this in the recycle bin when they took over.
In this comic pack, you essentially get two of the same figure, but with different heads. Hasbro, if you think fans will consider this “cheaping out”, you are very far off the mark. This is actually the type of thing fans want more of, especially when it comes to army builders. If this concept were brought to Rebel Fleet Troopers, Hoth Rebel Soldiers, Endor Soldiers, and Imperial Officers, you will hear nothing but praise.
At the time of this review, the sculpts are 13 years old, but hold up very well today. They lack the “Jedi Level Articulation” (JLA) we get today, but still have ample posing options. The armor is a little restricting, and prevents the shoulders from articulating upward. This is the type of thing that Hasbro executes much better today. The soft goods of the capes work perfectly, however the soft goods of the hood do not. In fact, you should never use the hoods. Ever. Nothing good comes of it. In actuality, the hood can’t even be used on the Ganner Krieg figure due to the ponytail.
As mentioned, the two figures are essentially the same with the exception of the head sculpts. The expression on Antares Draco is a little too intense. It looks like he’s trying to explode something with his mind. In contrast, Ganner Krieg is essentially expressionless, but that is the better of the two options. The clear lightsabers are also identical, and unfortunately use the old removable blade gimmick. These are very fragile and given to breaking. As stated, these figures still hold up today, and earn an 8 out of 10.
The most important take away from this review should be: DANG, COMIC PACKS WERE COOL AS HECK! Bring them back, Hasbro. Please.
