My esteemed colleague, Mr. Nomadacout, once said that this is the best pack-in accessory ever. I’m not so sure about that.  Don’t get me wrong;  I LOVE the tactical screen.  This is the exact reason for “why 3.75.”  Yeah, sure this accessory could exist in the 6” scale as it wouldn’t be too big for a display.  But in the 3.75” scale you could realistically afford to buy multiples and set up a complete Echo Base command center.  This is why 3.75”; It unlocks the world.

But back to the open, I’m not 100% sure that the tactical screen is the best pack-in accessory ever for the simple reason that I’m not positive that I consider it the pack-in.  I think the tactical screen is the star of this set.  So the General Rieekan figure might be the most passable figure packed in with the best environment piece ever.  Do you see what I’m doing there?  This is the equivalent of Josh Baskin’s pivot to the transforming sky scraper.  The figure is the pack-in for the screen.  The FIGURE is the pack-in for the screen (may you rest in peace, Kevin Meaney).

For the figure itself, I think the head sculpt is a dead ringer for actor Bruce Boa.  The expression is both stern and mournful.  It’s the exact expression of a military leader who is about to send an army of foot soldiers up against the armored calvary.  Heavy is the head who knowingly sends men to their doom.  The figure itself is dated even for 2003.  It’s a 6POA (six points of articulation) figure.  It can do exactly one thing.  It can point.  It can point at THAT.  THAT thing on the screen.  If you want the figure to do something else, tough cookies.  Honestly, I don’t need a General Rieekan figure to be super articulated, but I do need one that isn’t permanently pointing at THAT.  A little arm articulation would do this figure wonders.

To swing back to the top of this review, the star is the tactical screen.  This is the type of thing I wish I could just buy multiples of without accumulating an army of middle aged men.  As much as I want to create a display of a roving band of Tom Brokaws, I don’t have the space for that.  The screen has some control panel details that are mirrored on both sides.  The middle appears to be some sort of radiator or heat sink.  It’s cold on Hoth.  I bet you Toryn Farr appreciated that.  The screen itself features a series of vertical lines and concentric circles.  It’s very tactical.  It can serve double duty for both Echo Base and the Rebel base on Yavin.  That Yavin Rebel base is in two movies, so is it triple duty?  The figure is a 6 out of 10.  It’s better than your standard 6POA figure because of the incredible head sculpt.  The screen is a 10 out 10 for its mere existence.  Average the two together and you get an 8 out of 10 for this incredible set.
