The deluxe sub line in the SAGA line contained some neat offerings. Besides figures including large accessories or environmental pieces, sometimes you got a small vehicle. In this case, it’s hard to classify the “Dwarf” Spider Droid. Is it a figure? I would say so. It’s just a droid, after all. It is it’s own thing, as there is no “pilot” or “driver.” But it’s too big to be a part of the basic line, so it fits well in the deluxe line.
The Spider Droid, also known as “Dwarf” Spider Droid so as not to be confused with the much larger (and possibly piloted - at least according to Hasbro) OG-9 Homing Spider Droid, got one front and center glam shot during the Battle of Geonosis after the Jedi Strike Team was rescued by Yoda.
The “figure” here is actually a wind up toy. It’s much better than your typical action feature embedded on a Hasbro Star Wars offering. While it does have the little white wind-up knob on the body, it’s not too bothersome, and the walking action is pretty neat. We’ve even made a short video for your enjoyment. (No need to break out the popcorn, this won’t take long at all.)
Neat, eh? The only problem with it is that the walking only lasts about 6 or 7 seconds per wind up.
The figure comes apart into 4 pieces, and reassembles quite easily. Besides the wind-up feature, it also has a launching missile.
It’s a good looking toy, and fits well in your C.I.S. displays, particularly as part of the Geonosis defense forces, which faced off against the Grand Army of the Republic in the first battle of the The Clone Wars. It’s more than a novelty, despite the walking gimmick. Get one, or several. 6/10.
