This was supposed to be a Saturday Shmaturday review, but someone whose name rhymes with mine didn’t set the timer. So now I had to rewrite this entire paragraph, which is a tragedy because the paragraph that I had to erase was one of the best that’s ever been typed.  Trust me, it was incredible. So I’ve changed it to reflect that now it’s a Sunday Funday review.  Unfortunately, only half of it is true.  It is definitely Sunday.  Unless you’re in New Zealand where it’s Tuesday.  I think that’s how it works.  But anyway, here’s another review of a crap figure to put bookends on your weekend.

Since we did the Jango review yesterday, it seemed appropriate to complete the circle of misery by presenting the companion Obi-Wan Kenobi (Kamino Showdown) deluxe figure - which is almost as bad - but for different reasons.

Jango was a complete waste of a figure, the accessories are useless, but the environmental piece could be useful.  Here, the figure has some minor value, the accessories have some value, while the environmental piece is strange and upsetting.  (This is one my favorite Chris Swanski catchphrases, but he probably has no recollection that he said it.)

So Obi-Wan is weird.  He’s lightly articulated, with a lower half that is one single chunk of plastic.  His right hand can grip the included lightsaber, while his left hand is sculpted in a Force push position.  The head is unique.  I believe it is the only Episode II Obi-Wan figure to sport the wet hair from the actual Kamino platform showdown.  So I would have to give Hasbro props on this detail.

The main event is the Force Push action feature.  Included with the set is a clear stand, which supports a crate at the same height as Obi-Wan’s hand.  On the back of the figure’s left upper arm, is a large hole which accommodates the included air tube, and the hollowed nature of the arm allows air to pass through the hole sculpted into the open left palm.  The source of air is provided by a small bicycle tire pump, which is cleverly disguised as Tipoca City (RIP) column.  Pressing the “plunger” pushes air all the way through Obi-Wan’s hand.  As long as you’ve positioned the crate exactly in line with the hand at no more than 3 millimeters (for our international readers) distance, then the air will push the crate away as if Obi-Wan used the Force to propel it 4 inches away.

While filming this video to capture the amazing action feature, there happened to be some weird noise going on in the background, but don’t let the audio get in the way of your enjoyment of this riveting footage.  The same thing happened with yesterday’s video demo, so I have no idea what’s going on.  I should probably call the police or something.

Excellent.  I’m so glad Pete Alonso stayed home with the Mets.

I feel that someone should do a TickerTok of themselves failing for hours, but finally succeeding in getting Obi-Wan to Force push the crate onto the lever of the other set and launching Jango onto the magnetic column - and then running around the room screaming like he just scored the overtime winner in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals.

It just so happens that last week, I was working on the Saga elements of my collection, and I decided to “retire” both of these Obi-Wan and Jango deluxe sets.  I really wanted to keep the environmental pieces in my Kamino display, but in the end, I liked the idea of them more than I actually liked them.  I may reconsider displaying the Obi-Wan because of his screen accurate and unique hair.

Overall, it falls flat in its purpose to wow and entertain, and the figure just isn’t good.  However, Obi-Wan’s “rainy hair” look, the crate (everyone loves crates), and mayhap the column accessory could provide some minor value for collectors.  I’ll give it the same 5/10 that I gave Jango.  Homer eloquently sums up these 2 sets thusly:

Now please, it’s Sunday (probably).  Go outside and get some exercise or something.
