Luminary was another Jedi that did next to nothing in the PT. Most notably, she is one of the Geonosis Arena survivors, but other than being part of the lightsaber ignition sequence, we don’t really see her do much. Then, almost as an odd afterthought, she has a brief cameo in ROTS on the Kashyyyk beach as the battle preparations are underway. Her character gets more attention during The Clone Wars, and she even has a part (of sorts) in Rebels. What I never realized is that apparently her voice is one of the many Jedi that are heard encouraging Rey at the end of The Rise of Skywalker, which was a Star Wars movie.
The previous Luminara figure offered by Hasbro was a highly pre-posed version of her Geonosis appearance. It was pretty cool looking as a small statue, but was essentially one of the worst “action” figures ever made due to it being almost completely action-less.
This one is a decent effort, along the same lines as other Jedi from 2005. The sculpt is nice, and the paint details of the outfit are pretty intricate. The face isn’t great, as my sample is pretty wonky, but the tattoo is a more crisp tampo. Once again, this figure has some decent (for the time) articulation, including ball jointed head, shoulders, and knees, along with swivel elbows, forearms, waist, and hips. Once again, she has a fairly well done soft goods skirt, although it’s a bit too long and bunches up oddly where it hits the floor. And again, the skirt allows for decent range of motion of the legs, but the lack of ankles ruins it.
The figure includes a hilt, the hated removable blade, and a jungle-themed base to represent Kashyyyk.
While a better sculpt was made later on for TBS375 (and then repainted in TVC for the Microseries), that figure has a damning fatal flaw where the removable headdress continuously falls off if you try to pose the upper body. As such, this figure, with all its warts, isn’t really that far away from the update. We gave that figure a frustrating 5. I’m going to give this a 5 as well. But not all 5’s are equal. I’d still rate the TBS figure as the best one available, but this one is a little less frustrating.
