Ouch!

Well that sucked, but you can’t win ‘em all.  Chris has remained mostly silent with regard to his feelings about this series.  I can only assume that he is supremely confident the Celtics will complete a series comeback, and is planning some sort of epic mic drop moment to rub it in my face.  He’s a jerk.

Nomad 2, Chris 1.

Another day, another ROTS figure to celebrate the 20th.  This figure would seemingly represent the moment that changed the trajectory of galactic events.  All of Palpatine’s machinations came down to this moment.  Mace Windu had Palps down and cornered, but he hesitated.  Anakin advised Windu that it wasn’t the Jedi way to strike down Palpatine, so instead he sliced off his hands and sentenced the entire Galaxy to 18 years of Sith Rule.

The figure isn’t terrible as far as basic sculpt.  The face isn’t exactly a ringer for SLJ, but it’s decent.  We have yet another example of the Squeezy Legs action feature here.  Activating it will cause Windu to swivel at the waist and bring his lightsaber back and forth in a slashing attack motion.  While it works well enough, the aesthetics of the figure aren’t great, and of course it lacks meaningful lower body articulation.  As such, there isn’t a whole lot of posing you can do with it.

The exception is that you can make use of the included Sith lightning effect to surround Mace’s body with the Power of the Dark Side.  Additionally, the hands are removable, so you can re-create the exact moment that Anakin flipped the fortunes of the galaxy.  The only bummer here is that the face expression is entirely too neutral for this moment.  This figure would have been a million times better if it came with a swappable head.  Of course, a perfect example would have been the headsculpt that came with the “Blue” Saga 02-28 Mace Windu (Geonosis Rescue) figure.

Ow, my groin!

The decision to have this screaming expression with this particular figure is somewhat baffling.  The only thing I can think of was that it was meant for the moment Jango lit his robe on fire.  But I don’t even think Windu reacted much to that.  And of course, it was 3 years before ROTS, so Hasbro didn’t have any notion the Palpatine scene was happening.  It was just a weird moment in the history of Hasbro sculpting (like everything about the previously reviewed ROTS R2-D2).  But they could have brought it back for this figure, and it may have made sense.

Anyway, the figure also doesn’t come with his robes, which he wore throughout the film, including the office showdown scene.  So while the lightning and removable hands are a nice idea, they don’t bring enough realism to please the discerning collectors.  Along with the action feature, this figure will probably only satisfy stupid kids and their stupid lack of perspective on worldly things.  They have no idea how classy a figure become when it doesn’t have an action feature, or when it includes luxurious fabric robes.  Kids are the worst.

To recap:  lame action feature, poor articulation, incomplete accessory load out, on screen moment not correctly captured…5 stars.  (You’re welcome, Chris).
